We are seeking a highly driven accountant who will be responsible for supporting the department by performing day-to-day accounting functions that include overseeing and directing payroll procedures, ensuring compliance with laws and tax obligations and maintaining accurate payroll records. In this position the ideal candidate will collaborate with global teammates and will be joining a creative, fast-paced company with many opportunities to grow.

Duties and Responsabilities

  • Collate data from payroll sources
  • Arrange weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports
  • Be knowledgeable about and understand new legislation impacting payroll
  • Ensure payroll is completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Review payroll policies and amend procedures when required
  • Oversee the preparation of payroll related documents
  • Organize current employee data systems
  • Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements and support internal and external audits related as such
  • Resolve issues relating to payroll production
  • Handle reconciliations and general ledger
  • Assist with AP coding and GL coding
  • Maintain and protect the organization’s confidentiality by keeping information confidential
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, the Controller, and/or the Finance Director/CFO

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Able to work well under rigorous deadlines
  • Accounting and finance skills
  • People management skills and the ability to work on a team
  • Accurate documenting skills and attention to detail
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Problem analysis and ability to problem-solve
  • Risk assessment and decision-making
  • Competent IT skills, particularly proficiency with payroll software
  • Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills and an aptitude for communicating with funding staff and across the organization with employees, department managers & directors
  • Able to demonstrate good organizational and time management skills
  • Detail oriented and thorough
  • Excellent numerical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel Skills, Outlook
  • Demonstrate ability to adhere to strict confidentiality
  • Bilingual Spanish and English

Working Conditions

  • General office working conditions. Initially the person in this role will be working full-time at the Tijuana Office with the possibility of becoming a hybrid role. Weekend availability is required during the end of month closing.

Information Security Responsibilities

  • Read, acknowledge and comply with Viamericas Staff Information Security Policy via the Information Security training portal.  This should be done within 30 days of hire and repeated annually.
  • Attend periodic Information Security training provided by Viamericas’.
  • Report any event that might be an Information Security Incident: clicked on a malicious link, downloaded and opened a suspicious file, etc.
