Job Description
WD is seeking an experienced Internal Communications professional who enjoys thinking “outside the box” to join our Employee Communications team. In this role, you will drive the internal communications strategy and execution for our IT organization, as well as provide internal and external communications support to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
You will serve as a key collaborator responsible for creating and delivering communications within the IT organization, and for developing organization-wide IT communication campaigns and content. You will also support the CIO’s executive communications needs, both internally and externally. With significant transformation underway at WD – particularly within the IT organization – a strong understanding of change management communications will be essential for success in this role.
You will report to the Director of Employee Communications and work closely with IT leaders and the Executive Communications team. This hybrid role is based in San Jose, CA.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Be a trusted advisor to the CIO and IT leadership team to help drive the communications strategy and key messaging both within the IT organization and corporate-wide.
- Drive an internal and external communication strategy for the CIO that incorporates internal emails, newsletters, all-hands, as well as external speaking engagements, blogs, and social posts.
- Collaborate with IT stakeholders to source, create, or curate content that will engage and inform the global IT team.
- Develop from concept to execution a range of content designed for use in various communication materials, such as newsletters, company intranet, emails, and internal social media/ community content.
- Develop communication plans and content geared toward the IT organization that support the objectives of the organization.
- Develop communication and change management plans to help drive awareness and adoption of IT tools and programs company-wide.
- Create and lead an internal training program for IT leaders to help drive outcome-based results across the team.
- Support the global Employee Communications programs as needed (i.e., corporate-wide internal events such as company meetings, engagement events, and campaigns) to promote overall employee engagement.
- Track the effectiveness of internal communications programs and campaigns, making adjustments as needed.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- 8-10 years of internal communications experience.
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field
- Excellent content development and writing skills, with a specific focus on campaigns, blog posts, video, and social media.
- Solid understanding of change management communications.
- Experience working with clients at the executive level.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and engaging messages for diverse audiences.
- Highly collaborative and adaptable, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with multiple stakeholders and across different levels of the organization.
- Comfortable with technical terminology, with the ability to translate jargon into clear, succinct, and meaningful language.
- Skilled in video, podcast, or other forms of content creation to help tell employee stories.
- Familiar with Jira, Smartsheet, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar creative and project management tools.
- Curious and flexible, with the ability to think creatively.
- Effective team player, while also able to work independently.
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is self-motivated, and can thrive under pressure
- Extensive knowledge of a variety of current social media platforms.
- Excellent problem-solving techniques.
- Strong multitasking capabilities under pressure.
- Exceptional attention to detail, time management, project management, and organizational skills.

Compensation & Benefits Details
An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either Western Digital’s Short Term Incentive Plan (“STI Plan”) or the Sales Incentive Plan (“SIP”) which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance, depending on your role and your performance. You may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
