Overview

Subscript is a Series A startup focused on making life better for B2B SaaS finance leaders.

We’re backed by top-tier investors like First Round Capital, Pelion Ventures, and execs from Looker, Gusto, Postman, Plaid, and others.

We’re growing rapidly—closing deals almost entirely through founder-led sales and our Head of Marketing (who’d never sold anything before 😄). Now, we’re looking for our next Account Executive to help continue that growth.

But we’re not looking for your typical AE…

The way we work:

At Subscript, we do things differently—and we’re proud of that.

  • Every job at Subscript is fully remote. You can work from wherever you want, as long as you’re generally available during US working hours. We have teammates in San Francisco, Portugal, Brazil, England, Vietnam, Canada, and beyond 🌍

  • We are an asynchronous team—meaning no recurring internal meetings and very little live collaboration. We rely on each team member to communicate clearly in writing and through recorded video. If you’re sick of endless Zoom calls and Slack pings, you’ll love it here.

  • We actually like each other 🙂 We meet up multiple times per year for in-person offsites in great locations (Barcelona, Atlanta, Lisbon…)

  • Like all start-ups we’re scrappy—but not scrappy on compensation. Subscript is committed to paying at market rate for every role.

The role you’ll play on our team:

This isn’t your typical AE role. It’s way harder—and way more rewarding.

Subscript is a complex product sold to finance leaders (CFOs, Controllers, VPs of Finance) at B2B SaaS companies. These folks are sharp, technical, and skeptical—and we love that.

But it means closing a deal isn’t about charisma or charm. It’s about learning how their business works, understanding their finance processes, and customizing your pitch based on what they really need.

You’ll also be responsible for generating your own pipeline.

That means cold emailing, cold calling, reaching out on LinkedIn, and anything else you can dream up. We’ll share what’s worked for us—but the truth is, you’ll need to be proactive and creative to succeed here.

If you’re looking for a role where leads are handed to you and you just “run the playbook,” this isn’t it. If you love the idea of hunting for deals, figuring out what works, and closing business with support but not hand-holding—this could be a great fit.

This is not a plug-and-play sales job. You’ll need to be hungry, thoughtful, and insanely curious.

You’ll work closely with our Interim CEO (who currently sells most of our deals) and with our co-founders. You’ll be expected to own the full sales cycle—from discovery to close—and we’ll support you every step of the way. But you’ll need to bring the drive.

Subscript is still early, and every deal you close will shape our future. You’ll influence how we position ourselves, what we build, and how we grow. You’ll work directly with the founding team and have a real voice in how we operate. If you’re successful here, you won’t just be a number on a leaderboard—you’ll be a foundational hire with serious upside.

You might be a great fit if:

  • You’re early in your sales career (0–3 years of experience), and you’re hungry to grow fast.

  • You’ve got a chip on your shoulder. Maybe you were overlooked. Maybe you’re switching careers. Whatever the reason, you’re out to prove something—and we love that energy.

  • You’ve got serious grit. This role isn’t easy. You’ll need to learn complex material, bounce back from tough calls, and keep going.

  • You’re a learning machine. You seek out coaching. You ask for feedback. You read. You research. You get better every week.

  • You’re intellectually curious. When you find a topic that’s new to you—like SaaS finance or quote-to-cash workflows—you go down the rabbit hole.

  • You’re comfortable with nuance. Our product is flexible. That’s a strength—but it means you’ll need to do real discovery and tailor your approach each time.

  • You’re good with words. You don’t need to be a copywriter, but you should be confident writing thoughtful, persuasive emails and follow-ups.

  • You’re the kind of person who Googles things compulsively and takes pride in figuring stuff out fast. If that’s not you, you’ll probably struggle here.

The interview process

We like to be really transparent about everything at Subscript—including how we hire.

Our process is designed to help us find people who are gritty, curious, and self-driven. That means we’ve built in a few moments for the most motivated candidates to stand out. (If you like a challenge, you’ll enjoy this.)

Here’s what to expect:

1. Application

Submit your resume and answer a few short questions.

2. “Show Me How You Learn” Challenge

We’ll ask you to spend a little time learning something new—anything you choose—and show us how you went about it. (There’s also an optional bonus challenge here, if you’re curious about our customers.)

3. Grit Simulation

You’ll walk through a fictional scenario where things aren’t going your way—and explain how you’d respond. This is your chance to show us how you handle setbacks, pressure, and uncertainty.

4. Live Interview

A 1:1 conversation where we’ll go deep on how you learn, what motivates you, and how you push through challenges. We’ll also save plenty of time for your questions.

5. References

We’ll speak with a couple folks who can tell us more about how you work and grow.

That’s it. No drawn-out panels or endless interview rounds. Just a focused process with a couple of thoughtful exercises—designed to help you (and us) figure out if this is a great mutual fit.
