Job description

At Carrum, we are transforming how we pay for, deliver and experience healthcare. If you are passionate about changing healthcare and want to finally get rid of surprise bills, poor quality, and high prices, while thriving in an entrepreneurial, cutting-edge environment, we would love to connect with you.

In 2014 Carrum reinvented the Centers of Excellence (COE) category in digital health. Today, 95% of the US population lives within 50 miles of a Carrum COE and our providers rank in the top 10% nationally. Our team’s execution has been recognized by the venture community and we’ve raised more than $96M in aggregate from investors like OMERS, Tiger Global Management and Wildcat Ventures. Our impact has been externally proven in a 2021 RAND Corporation study and featured as a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study.

We’re looking for a passionate and driven Clinical Operations Specialist to help support and partner with our Patient Care Team.  This position will also play a critical cross-functional role in the success of our company.

The heart of Carrum Health is a seamless and highly personalized patient experience, which is enabled by our Patient Care team. You will be responsible for supporting our Patient Care Team as they provide comprehensive, non-medical support to our patients throughout the entire episode of care, together serving as the patient’s biggest advocate and creating a welcoming and comforting end-to-end experience. Your role will be multidimensional, serving as a clinical mentor to the Patient Care Team and clinical partner to our Provider Operations Team, together building strong clinical partnerships with our COEs. You will provide peace of mind and be a dedicated guide to patients and team members during the surgical process, providing meaningful clinical insight so that team members can thoughtfully advocate for our patients allowing them to focus on their health while we handle all the details.

This is a full time position with the opportunity to work remotely if you are not in the Chicago or San Francisco area.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Ensure a differentiated, patient-first experience by directly supporting the Patient Care Team throughout the Carrum process.
  • Partner with the Director of Operations to develop strategic, operational, and technological solutions that improve care quality and reduce costs
  • Design and maintain clinical training programs to keep the Patient Care Team informed with the most current clinical and program updates.
  • Collaborate to implement standards that drive productivity, quality, and outstanding service
  • Serve as the clinical escalation point for complex patient and provider (COE) situations.
  • Act as the primary clinical contact for the Patient Care Team, supporting sensitive cases with empathy and clinical insight.
  • Bring a proactive, flexible mindset and support new, clinically focused initiatives as the company continues to grow.

We’re excited about you because…

You bring deep clinical expertise and a passion for improving patient outcomes, and you are ready to apply that experience in a fast-growing, innovative environment. We are looking for someone eager to make a meaningful impact beyond the bedside. We also hope to see from you:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of RN experience in direct patient care with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • 1-3 years of experience working in roles that impact, support, and/or directly affects the patient or end-users’ experience on a digital health platform
  • An aptitude for quality assurance and data-driven outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills; able to effectively analyze and communicate data to drive high-value, actionable insights and meaningful change
  • Have a strong working knowledge of general surgical procedures
  • Commitment to providing the highest level of service through the right mix of empathy, professionalism, and integrity
  • Comfort working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Appropriately handle confidential information and adhere to HIPAA requirements
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of self-funded employer benefit plans and an understanding of healthcare bundled payment models is a plus
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet aggressive deadlines, and drive cross-functional projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A natural self-starter who is inspired to think outside the box

Why you’ll love working with us…

  • We’re a hard-working, humble, and compassionate group motivated to solve the hard problems in healthcare today. You’ll work with talented, experienced co-workers from companies like Booz & Company, Livongo, 98point6, Google, and Optum. We believe in using data to inform decisions, technology to make our jobs easier, and creative thinking to pave the future.
  • We are working with some of the most recognized and esteemed names in the country. Top hospitals like Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Stanford Health Care, Scripps Health, and Rush Health have joined our platform. Employers who use our benefit include US Foods, United Airlines, and large public sector organizations like the self-insured schools of California, and the State of Maine.
  • We empower team members to be autonomous and provide a collaborative environment where you get support and healthy feedback. You can bring your authentic self to work every day and are encouraged to help others do the same.
  • We carve out time to let go of work to celebrate our successes and have fun. We’re a remote-first company with employees all over the United States and two office locations in San Francisco and Chicago. We support our employees during the work day and beyond with flexible working hours, generous time off, paid parental leave, and opportunities to connect with coworkers both virtually and in-person.
  • We embrace our team’s diversity of thought, experience, and interests and know that doing so makes us stronger as a company. Carrum has an active employee-led Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) committee and several employee resource groups (ERGs). Our ERGS help employees build stronger connections through social, educational, and community activities.
  • You’ll feel proud that the work you do each day directly impacts people’s lives in big and meaningful ways.
