Job description

Introducing Masabi

// At Masabi, we’re driving the fare payment revolution, powering the journeys of millions all over the world. We build fare collection platforms that allow riders to seamlessly buy and present tickets for public transport either on their mobile phones, from a ticket machine, or even by tapping their bank card to travel.

Our Justride platform is used in over 250 locations globally, including some of the largest cities in the world. With our industry-first mobile ticketing SDK, we’ve partnered with large players in the transport space, including Uber, Moovit and Transit.

Your own journey is important to us too. Choosing a role here means joining a network of innovators from all walks of life; a group of passionate individuals who consistently deliver. Here, you’ll find the tools you need to build the career you want. Whether you’re taking the direct route or trying a new path, we’ll support you no matter what.

The Role_ // Masabi is hiring a hands-on, deeply technical Chief Technology Officer to shape the next era of our platform’s architecture, innovation, and customer impact.

This role is central to Masabi’s strategic direction, combining architectural ownership, technical excellence, and product foresight to drive global transit transformation. For candidates favouring a traditional CTO role, the scope covers the entire Engineering organisation of about 150 people, including development, operations and compliance. However, we are equally open to candidates with a more hands-on technical profile over people and process management.

This flexibility is supported by a strong Senior Director of Engineering who oversees day-to-day team management and a technical Chief Product Officer who can partner on shared responsibilities.

In either model, you’ll be our most senior and capable technologist, championing architectural clarity, technical depth, and inclusive, AI-driven innovation. You’ll also be a key figure in strategic customer engagements, especially where technology is at the core of the conversation.

Location_ // This is a remote-first leadership role, open to candidates in the Colombia. Some occasional travel may be required for planning sessions, strategic customer engagement, or team events.

Responsibilities_

Technical & Architectural Leadership

  • Define and continuously evolve Masabi’s long-term technical strategy aligned with scalable growth

  • Take full accountability for platform stability, extensibility and technical integrity

  • Guide architectural decision-making with clarity and pragmatism

  • Maintain hands-on connection with our code and systems, leading by example to model engineering excellence

AI Innovation & Product Enablement

  • Identify opportunities to apply AI/ML/Predictive Analytics across our product suite, internal tools, and operations

  • Foster a culture of responsible experimentation, AI fluency, and continuous learning

Engineering Culture & Talent Stewardship

  • Lead, support, and develop our community of Engineers

  • Champion a culture of excellence, psychological safety, and inclusion

  • Collaborate cross-functionally across Engineering, Product, Business Development, and Professional Services to align priorities and outcomes

Strategic Business Collaboration

  • Manage Incident and Problem Management functions to ensure a consistent, high-quality customer experience

  • Work closely with Product and Business Development to shape impactful platform enhancements

  • Represent Masabi in strategic customer and partner conversations involving architecture, security, compliance, and integration

Growth, M&A & Compliance Readiness

  • Lead or support technical due diligence and platform integration during mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships

  • Ensure platform alignment with compliance standards including SOC2, ISO27001, and PCI

  • Bring experience navigating technical transformation during periods of significant organisational growth

Our Stack_ // At Masabi, we take a modern, pragmatic approach to technology, optimising for scalability, resilience, and developer experience.

  • Kotlin (Backend & Mobile), TypeScript (Web), Python

  • KrakenD & Ktor (APIs), Vue/Nuxt (Frontend), Capacitor (Hybrid Mobile)

  • Fully cloud-hosted on AWS - Fargate, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SSM, KMS, etc.

  • Kafka / Kafka Streams, DynamoDB as the primary store, limited use of Aurora

  • GitLab CI/CD, Terraform & Terragrunt (IaC), Renovate (Dependencies)

  • Grafana Cloud for metrics, logs, traces and SLOs; OpenTelemetry as our instrumentation standard

  • Strong emphasis on meaningful tests at all levels of the testing pyramid

We’re intentional about our tooling and open to better ways of doing things; this role will shape where we go next.

About You_

  • You have extensive leadership experience in software engineering in SaaS and complex B2B environments

  • You are a hands-on technical leader who remains close to code and architecture while also capable of scaling teams and strategy

  • You bring expert-level knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and modern, scalable infrastructure

  • You’ve led engineering across multiple functions, including development, operations, and compliance

  • You’ve successfully embedded AI/ML into production systems, with measurable outcomes in either product or internal efficiency

  • You’re a clear communicator, cross-functional collaborator, and thoughtful leader who thrives in complex, mission-driven environments

Bonus Points_

  • Experience in mobility, payments, fintech, or highly available enterprise SaaS

  • Involvement in platform re-architecture, system integrations, or M&A-related transformations

  • Comfort working in regulated or security-sensitive environments

Some of Our Benefits_

  • Competitive salary package

  • 15 days paid vacation for each year of service plus 18 public holidays

  • Private Healthcare

  • Monthly team bonding allowance

  • Menopause support

  • Choice of a workstation

  • Ability to work for up to 3 months per year from any country in the world

  • Fun and collaborative environment with a focus on making a difference in the world

// In addition to the above, as an employee, you will also have access to a training allowance of up to $750 USD and $250 USD to spend on your home office every year.
