About the Organization

The California Domestic Workers Coalition(CDWC), a fiscally-sponsored project of Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund, is a coalition of grassroots domestic worker organizations and their supporters from the labor, faith, domestic employer, women and other grassroots communities, who are working to advance the rights of domestic workers. Domestic workers make all other work possible. They are the housecleaners, nannies, caregivers, cooks, and gardeners who care for our loved ones and our homes. In California, there are approximately 300,000 domestic workers. An estimated 2 million households hire workers to support their everyday lives – yet domestic work is too often undervalued and invisibilized. We have come together as a statewide network to build the leadership and political power of domestic workers and to ensure that statewide laws and agencies protect domestic workers from abuse. Finally, we work to inspire all Californians to uphold the dignity of domestic workers inside and outside of our homes.

About the fiscal-sponsor: ​​The Center for Empowered Politics and the sister organization the Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund​ is a practitioner-led movement capacity organization that trains and develops new leaders of color to grow their power building and co-governing infrastructure. In addition, CEPEF provides capacity building support (i.e. executive coaching, peer coaching, organizational development, fund development) for fiscally-sponsored projects.

Areas of Responsibility

Organizational Strategy & Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership for CDWC in collaboration with the Leadership Team.
  • Co-lead annual goal-setting and long-term strategic planning with the Coalition Steering Committee and Director.
  • Monitor and assess political conditions and opportunities alongside the Steering Committee, made up of domestic worker leaders from across California.
  • Convene the Staff Leadership Team and Management Circle to ensure strong coordination and stewardship.
  • Ensure all priorities and work plans reflect CDWC’s strategic compass (vision, values, horizons) and 5–10-year milestones.
  • Facilitate ongoing evaluation of organizational priorities, work plans, and infrastructure, offering clear analysis and sustainable solutions.

Organizational Development & Infrastructure

  • Lead CDWC’s infrastructure department and long-term sustainability, including operations, logistics, and administration.
  • Build and support Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing internal department of the CDWC staff team, including the hiring of an Operations Director and , Logistics-Ops Coordinators
  • Provide oversight to Operations, Logistics, and Administration, with the team responsible for:
    • Ensuring strong operational oversight and coordination with the Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund (CEPEF), CDWC’s fiscal sponsor.
    • Maintaining physical and digital infrastructure and security
    • Managing contracts and vendors
    • Overseeing the planning and implementation of key organizational events (staff and coalition meetings, etc.)
    • Ensuring all staff have the equipment, supplies, and materials they need to do their work
    • Creating and maintaining strong, consistent knowledge management systems and practices across the organization

People and Culture

  • Lead all HR functions in coordination with CEPEF: Policy development;Staff hiring, onboarding, and offboarding; Staff development, benefits, compensation; Performance management and compliance
  • Ensure equitable and consistent application of personnel policies
  • Oversee compliance with employment laws in partnership with legal counsel
  • Ensure strong labor relations and alignment with the collective bargaining agreement
  • Provide leadership to management on people and culture, change management, and organizational practices
  • Plan and implement staff development strategies that promote equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Deliver trainings on communication, leadership, and work styles that support an equitable, sustainable, and results-driven culture
  • Study of frameworks that deepen political and cultural unity of the Coalition and staff team Promote shared political and cultural frameworks that unify staff and coalition
  • Own the development and implementation of strategies to strengthen culture, DEIB, engagement, and belonging

Qualifications

People Centered Culture Builder.

  • Proven Experience creating people-centered systems and team cultures where staff feel supported, safe, and able to do their best work
  • Skilled at navigating personnel challenges with sensitivity and care

Excellent manager and seasoned team leader.

  • Track record of equitable, sustainable, and results-driven management
  • Experience building trust, delegating ownership, addressing performance, and retaining retaining top talent with no gaps across race, gender identity, or other marginalized identities

Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity at an organizational level.

  • Recognizes and addresses disparate impacts of decisions and practices and recognizes how race and other identities intersect in the work, especially with the communities CDWC serves
  • Understands the historical context for racial and gender inequity and the present-day implications
  • Committed to operationalizing equity at an organizational level
  • Reflects on personal identity and responds well to feedback about power and equity

Strategic leadership within complexity.

  • Balances big-picture thinking and detail-orientation while managing competing priorities

Mission Alignment & Movement Experience

  • Demonstrated passion for CDWC’s mission to build power and improve conditions for domestic workers.
  • Prior experience in the worker justice movement—or in movements rooted in labor, immigrant rights, racial justice, or gender justice—is a strong plus.

Employment Terms

This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week. This position has an annual salary range of $95,000- $105,000, depending on experience. This position is exempt and does not qualify to work overtime hours.
