Job description

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our staging, production, and development environments on AWS. This role is essential in ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our server infrastructure that supports our website.

Job Responsibilities

  • AWS Infrastructure Management: Oversee and maintain our AWS environments, including EC2, RDS, S3, and VPC.

  • Server Management: Ensure the stability and performance of our staging, production, and development servers, performing regular updates, backups, and monitoring.

  • Security and Compliance: Implement and manage security best practices, including IAM roles, security groups, and encryption, to protect our data and infrastructure.

  • CI/CD Pipeline Support: Collaborate with the development team to optimize and maintain CI/CD pipelines, facilitating smooth and efficient deployments using Bitbucket.

  • Monitoring and Alerts: Set up and manage monitoring tools to ensure system health, and respond to alerts proactively.

  • Automation: Develop scripts and tools to automate routine tasks, such as backups, deployments, and scaling.

  • Incident Response: Quickly diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to services.

  • Cost Management: Monitor and optimize AWS costs, ensuring efficient use of resources without compromising performance.

  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps, System Administration, or a related role with a focus on AWS.

  • AWS Services: Strong experience with AWS services, particularly EC2, RDS, S3, and IAM.

  • Linux Administration: Proficiency in managing and configuring Linux-based servers.

  • CI/CD Tools: Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Bitbucket Pipelines or AWS CodePipeline.

  • Scripting: Strong scripting skills with Bash, Python, or similar languages for automation tasks.

  • Monitoring Tools: Experience with monitoring and logging tools.

  • Networking: Good understanding of networking concepts, including VPNs, security groups, and load balancing in AWS.

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve issues.

  • Communication: Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with the development team and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with version control systems like Bitbucket.
  • Basic understanding of databases, particularly MySQL on RDS.
  • Experience in optimizing AWS cost structures.

System Requirements

  • At least 15mbps for the main internet and at least 10mbps for backup

  • A desktop or laptop that has an i5 processor with at least 8 GB RAM and an i3 processor for backup

  • Note: Back-ups should still be able to function when there is a power interruption
