Position Overview:

The Director, National Accounts is a field-based position that is responsible for gaining and maintaining broad coverage and access for PharmaEssentia’s products.  This includes optimizing and ensuring appropriate coverage and access with targeted national/regional Commercial payers, Medicare Part D plan sponsors, FFS state/Managed Medicaid and VA/DoD.

The DNA will be responsible for eliminating and/or significantly reducing barriers to access and coverage for BESREMi across all payer segments. This individual will place themselves in a position to inform, influence and educate the formulary status, coverage policy, and decision-making processes at all levels and departments within the PBM/Payer.

The DNA must have the ability to navigate complex organizations, identify and engage BESREMi key decision makers, map review timelines and processes as it relates to a product’s formulary and coverage.

The DNA serves as the lead contact for payer related access issues.  This individual is responsible for executing all strategies and tactics within each of their accounts.  The DNA will collaborate extensively with many internal departments and functions; Market Access, Marketing, Sales, and Sales Operations, Finance, Legal, and Compliance to implement product access initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for National and Regional payers within a geography
  • Obtain appropriate access and coverage with targeted payers by providing education to inform formulary status, pharmacy coverage policies, and Prior Authorization development
  • Establish high-level business relationships with key decision makers while navigating sensitive conversations related to access, cost and value with targeted accounts through:
    • Presenting compelling levels of clinical data and product positioning via PIE and Value Proposition presentations
    • Engaging clinical expertise of Medical Liaisons in delivering comprehensive product and disease state presentations to key decision makers.
  • Develop account plans and present regular reviews including relevant payer coverage trends, and policies, to PharmaEssentia personnel
  • Identify and implement KOL advocates and pull-through activities with marketing, Market Access and Sales
  • Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve payer coverage and access issues
  • Develop an effective communication plan to ensure that all PharmaEssentia sales and marketing staff are aware of key coverage and access related issues across all payer segments
  • Inform appropriate guidelines or treatment protocols that are access related to PharmaEssentia products with Oncology Pathway Organizations.
  • Develop and maintain a business relationship with oncology GPOs.
  • Role involves significant travel (up to approximately 70% of time). DNASs will meet with payer customers, attend appropriate conferences, and is expected to travel in the field with access personnel for key events

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required with 10+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, or relatable field, at least five years are in Managed Care National Account Management and/or related Market Access experience

• Experience with launch of new therapies, specifically rare disease/specialty, pharmacy benefit, or Hem/Onc Products

• Existing director and executive level relationships with key personnel at National PBMs strongly preferred

• Excellent business writing and presentation skills

• Strong negotiating/influencing skills

• Team orientation and solution-oriented approach

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Accomplished presenter with experience presenting to large groups and senior executives

• History of building strategic relationships with key medical, pharmacy and policy personnel in the payer community

• Experience utilizing health economic models in delivering key access messaging

• Understanding of national and state legislative, Medicare, Medicaid, VA/DOD/IHS and private payer initiatives affecting access and coverage of pharmaceutical and biotechnology products.

• Excellent technical knowledge and expertise in payer pharmacy coverage policy and the access process for specialty therapies and oncology products

• The ideal candidate has worked in a fast-paced start-up environment with the ability to prioritize business needs, solve complex problems, develop strong customer relationships, and motivate others to take appropriate action to move initiatives forward
