This is a remote position. Unless Opal Group requires legal assistance in court or paperwork.
1099-Independent Contractor.
Schedule: Fee per hour (Rate range 65-100 US per hour).
**Must be able to legally perform law assistance in NYS at the moment of hiring**
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Support and develop our compliance function
- Review Opal Group commercial and financing agreements
- Support the team with hotel agreements (we lease hotel venues for live events).
- Company yearly overview in legal compliance.
- Assistance with Human Resources (employment US /International consultants), privacy, and cybersecurity compliance.
- Other: special legal research, help with legal communication, general inquiries regarding law interpretation.
Requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:
- A law degree.
- Explanation of a query in detail, including legal references, draft preparation of responses, documents, and follow-up until the legal issue is resolved.
- Management of legal services per request until the issue is resolved and you receive confirmation from the team to terminate the assistance of certain matters.
- Experience with hotel agreements, event services, and networking is a plus.
- Admission to or in the process of admission to the New York State Bar
- Minimum of two to three years of legal experience.
- Excellent communication, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to quickly shift work priorities to meet the demands of time-sensitive projects.
- Superb research skills with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information for presentation to stakeholders and principals, including the mayor.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan to meet goals without significant oversight.
- Ability to complete work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.
- Recommend a fair and effective outcome, accurately assessing the evidence and applying a well-reasoned legal framework to the case.
- Ability to effectively evaluate legal exposure, manage risk, and develop creative solutions to achieve agency goals within appropriate legal guidelines.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion and maintain the security of confidential documentation.
- An understanding of New York City’s operational agencies and political environment is a plus.
- Understanding of other US State Laws regarding hotel lease agreements.
- Collaborate effectively with managers and incorporate feedback into planning and execution.
- High degree of ethics and integrity
