The Role
This role reports to the Network Operations Engineering Manager and is responsible for network operations and maintenance and providing level 3 support for services that Megaport customers rely on. A successful applicant will work closely with the existing engineering teams to build and maintain a highly scalable, reliable, and resilient network, with a focus on automation and providing elastic services to customers on demand.
Passionate about scalable networking with an interest in automation and software, you will work on robustly solving problems with a focus on customer experience and the end product. Ideally, you have come from a telecommunications or content distribution network background with experience working on large global networks and an intimate knowledge of routing protocols and label switching. Experience with SDN and cloud-based networking concepts is a must.
What You’ll Be Doing
- A senior representative within the Network Operations Engineering team
- Support the Capacity Management function
- Support the Network Risk Management function
- Participate in network procurement activities to ensure compliance with approved design standards
- Identify and lead network redesign initiatives to optimise performance and cost
- Manage assigned network projects end-to-end
- Host regular BAU, project, and capacity planning meetings
- Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on network performance and growth
- Review and approve scripts and programmes used in network projects
- Perform carrier and vendor analysis
- Train and mentor Operations Engineers within the team
- Support the operation and maintenance of Megaport’s next-generation network
- Lead resolution of major network and Layer 3 customer incidents
- Document all work in Megaport’s OSS/BSS systems
- Ensure appropriate monitoring is implemented across all network equipment
- Maintain strong technical relationships with vendors and internal engineering teams
- Provide escalation support to the Network Operations Centre, Sales, Deployment, and other business units
- Deliver technical summaries of proposed, planned, and completed work
- Evaluate, test, and certify new network hardware, systems, and software
- Develop and deliver training to Network Operations staff
- Collaborate with Engineering on network enhancement initiatives
What We Are Looking For

- Proven experience in network incident resolution, mitigation, deployment, and maintenance
- Production experience with IS-IS, BGP, MPLS Traffic Engineering, and MPLS Layer 2⁄3 VPNs
- Hands-on experience with Juniper and Cisco hardware platforms
- Experience with the Opengear platform for out-of-band management
- Experience managing network hardware installations and single-mode fibre patching in third-party data centres
- Familiarity with Linux and scripting in Perl or Python (highly regarded)
- Proactive, self-motivated, and highly organised
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
- Able to work effectively in dynamic environments
- Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a remote team
