About the Role:

MEP Project Controls Engineer - reports to the Vice President of Construction and is responsible for managing project document controls and the coordination of Owner Furnished Contractor Installed Equipment (OFCI) on complex MEP projects. This role requires an individual with deep knowledge of construction document control processes, engineering principles, and a strong commitment to maintaining project documentation integrity.  This individual will work closely with project stakeholders, including the owner, contractors, and vendors, to ensure that the Owner Furnished Equipment is integrated seamlessly into the project, and that all project controls are aligned with the objectives and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Controls

  • Document Management: Oversee the creation, organization, and storage of all construction-related documentation, including drawings, specifications, contracts, permits, and change orders.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with project standards and industry regulations. Review documents for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Scheduling: Monitor, review, and update project schedule documentation and files using scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) to ensure that construction projects stay on track.
  • Cost Management: Assist in the preparation and management of project budgets, track project costs, and provide regular cost reports to senior management.
  • System Management: Maintain and manage a digital document control system to track, store, and retrieve documents efficiently. Ensure all team members are trained on the document control system.
  • Coordination with Project Teams: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely distribution of relevant documentation and information.
  • Document Tracking & Reporting: Monitor the flow of documents within the project, ensuring deadlines are met and that documents are approved and signed off as required. Produce regular reports on document status and potential issues.
  • Compliance & Audits: Ensure all documentation is compliant with legal, regulatory, and client-specific requirements. Coordinate internal and external audits of document control processes.
  • Version Control: Maintain version control on all documents and drawings to ensure that the most current versions are always used on-site.
  • Archiving: Lead the effort to archive completed projects’ documentation in a structured manner to ensure easy retrieval for future reference.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate any risks related to document control processes that could impact the successful completion of the project.

Owner Furnished Contractor Installed Equipment (OFCI) Coordination:

  • Monitor and manage OFCI inventory and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
  • Ensure that OFCI is delivered on time, in accordance with the project schedule, and meets all design specifications and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and contractors for the procurement, storage, transportation, and installation of OFCI.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all matters related to Owner Furnished Equipment (OFCI).
  • Assist in developing and executing purchase orders for MEP equipment
  • Provide regular progress reports and updates to senior management, identifying potential OFCI risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Address and resolve any technical or logistical issues that may arise concerning OFCI or project controls.
  • Collaborate with the project team to resolve conflicts and prevent project delays.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Certification in Document Control or Project Management is a plus.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in document control and procurement management within the construction industry.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient with document management software and construction management tools (e.g., ACC Build, Procore, SharePoint, etc.).
    • Strong understanding of construction processes, drawings, and technical documents.
    • Strong foundational knowledge of MEP equipment for Data Centers
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and project scheduling tools.
  • Knowledge:
  • Thorough knowledge of document control practices, standards, and protocols in construction projects.
  • Strong familiarity with construction industry regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal teams, clients, contractors, and vendors effectively.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Travel

  • 10% travel for vendor coordination, site coordination, and delivery confirmation.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,000 - $200,000 Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
