IOG, is a technology company focused on blockchain research and development. We are renowned for our scientific approach to blockchain development, emphasizing peer-reviewed research and formal methods to ensure security, scalability, and sustainability.
Our projects include the Cardano blockchain, as well as other products in the areas of decentralized finance (DeFi), governance, and identity management, aiming to advance the capabilities and adoption of blockchain and Web3 technology globally.
What the role involves:
As a Research Fellow at IOG you will be responsible for conducting high-quality research, combining your well-developed research skills with a passion for collaborating in innovative research projects. We are looking for someone who is interested in blockchain technologies specifically to conduct research on post-quantum cryptographic solutions for enhancing the security and scalability of decentralized ledger technologies, and potentially harnessing quantum computation to develop novel, future-proof cryptographic protocols. You will join our team of research fellows contributing directly to our diverse development efforts.
- Representing the company at academic and industry conferences and sharing technical information with the public.
- Writing research papers for submission to top cryptologic conferences and journals.
- Reviewing technical pre-prints and manuscripts related to blockchain technology.
- Contributing to peer-reviewed publications.
- Working independently as well as in groups together with other IOG researchers and external collaborators.
- Communicating effectively with the development team, including preparing specifications of protocols and algorithms.
- Performing Research Liaison tasks to form the interlock between research and product/engineering on a specific topic.
- Participating in weekly research meetings.
- Some international travel and short relocation assignments as required.
Who you are:
A Ph.D. degree in mathematics or computer science with a focus on a related area to blockchain systems, including cryptography, information security, and distributed systems.
At least two years post-PhD research experience
An excellent record of peer-reviewed publications.
Fundamental understanding of computer programming.
Familiarity with blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies.
You are passionate about blockchain technology and are motivated in working with a high level of excellence.

Knowledge of Cryptographic Protocols and Distributed Ledger Technologies
