ABOUT THE BUILDING DECARBONIZATION COALITION (BDC)
The Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) aligns critical stakeholders on a path to transform the nation’s buildings through clean energy using policy, research, market development, and public engagement. The BDC and its members are charting the course to eliminate fossil fuels in buildings to improve people’s health, cut climate and air pollution, prioritize high-road jobs, and ensure that our communities are more equitable and resilient to the impacts of climate change.
POSITION DESCRIPTION & KEY PRIORITIES
The Senior Content Manager supports the BDC’s vision through strategic and impactful content creation and storytelling. Reporting to the Director of Brand, the Senior Content Manager sits on the Communications team, and collaborates with subject matter experts from around the organization, playing a critical role in both the evolution of the coalition, and our ability to share our work with the building decarbonization community, and beyond.
The Senior Content Manager will be responsible for developing and executing a content strategy that helps empower BDC to realize its mission and goals. Specifically, they will oversee the creation, distribution, optimization, and brand alignment of content and messaging across our digital ecosystem including (but not limited to) BDC’s associated websites, blogs, social media profiles, and email marketing campaigns. This work will include producing , packaging, and sharing impactful content that engages BDC’s core audiences with timely, compelling stories about our organization, the diverse communities we impact, and our place within the decarbonization movement.
Strategy
- Own the development and activation of BDC’s content strategy, ensuring integration of storytelling into broader campaign strategies and organizational goals.
- Own and operate a cross-channel editorial calendar that translates strategic priorities into actionable publishing plans, ensuring BDC’s thought leadership, campaigns, and key initiatives are consistently elevated, amplified, and timed for maximum engagement.
- Ensure all content is brand-aligned, reflective of BDC’s North Stars and values, and elevates a diverse range of voices across the building decarbonization movement.
- Explore, test, and iterate new technology and approaches to content creation to drive impactful brand awareness and engagement with core audiences across multiple channels.
- Work alongside the Director of Brand to develop and refine BDC’s overarching tone, voice, and brand guidelines.
Content Creation
- Engage with teams across the organization to write, create, and edit a wide range of brand-aligned, impactful content that drives the ever-evolving story of BDC and its associated brands across various formats, including blogs, social media, whitepapers, videos, emails, and testimonials.
- Interview key partners and review research data and other background information to write and manage the creation of a variety of short and longer-form assets, including, but not limited to social copy, video scripts, blogs, infographics, marketing emails, eBooks, and research summaries.
- Serve as a developmental editor, supporting cross-functional content creation and repurposing, while ensuring that BDC’s brand voice and tone are reflected in all its content.
- Work alongside the Digital Products and Customer Experience Marketing teams to ensure content is optimized for search engines, enhancing organic visibility and traffic.
- Analyze communications requests and develop and optimize content briefs to ensure the content creation process is efficient and effective.
Management
- Manage content on BDC’s website, social media profiles, email campaigns, and other owned channels, serving as a primary point of contact and providing guidance, support, and consultation to colleagues through this process.
- Manage junior staff, external vendors, freelancers, and contractors supporting BDC’s content and storytelling initiatives.
- Manage BDC’s digital asset management platform, looking for creative ways to organize, repurpose, and connect new and existing content to increase visibility, engagement, and ease of access for both internal and external users.
- Track and analyze content performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS
Required:
- 5-7 years of hands-on strategic content marketing experience creating both derivative and original content for email, social, and the web, preferably within the environmental/buildings landscape.
- Proven ability to own and implement impactful and measurable content strategy.
- Experience working effectively with and building consensus among a variety of internal and external stakeholders who may possess divergent viewpoints and agendas.
- A creative thinker with the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences and targets.
- Highly collaborative work style with the ability to operate as a peer, thought partner, and manager to members of BDC’s team.
- Outstanding oral and written communications skills that demonstrate an ability to convey a compelling story and narrative about building decarbonization and the coalition’s mission and impact.
- Strong detail-oriented project management skills.
- Understanding of the importance of equity and justice in advancing climate solutions.
- Ability and willingness to travel on occasion (1-4 times per year).
- Displays calm under pressure with an ability to pivot and reassess during peak campaign moments.
- Translate complex, layered issues into persuasive narratives that can change behavior.
Desired:
- A passion for building decarbonization, reflected in a clear and inspiring commitment to the mission and growth of the coalition.
- Ability to apply storytelling and messaging principles to UX writing, creating content that informs, guides, and inspires users throughout their interaction with BDC’s digital ecosystem.
- Experience in multimedia production, storytelling and graphic design using software like Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
- Understanding of building electrification, environmental justice, and the climate solutions.
- Experience creating and activating content in HubSpot, WordPress, or similar digital platforms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, SCHEDULE & TRAVEL
The Senior Content Manager will work remotely from their home and can be based anywhere in the U.S. Some travel will be required, respective of Covid-related health and safety guidelines.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary for this position is $125,000, commensurate with experience, plus a competitive benefits package including health coverage, retirement benefits, paid sick leave, unlimited PTO, vacation, and holidays, and access to professional development resources.
