About Building Decarbonization Coalition
The Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC), founded in 2018, is a national non-profit 501c3 organization. We bring together key partners to transform buildings through clean energy. We employ policy, research, market development, and public engagement to eliminate fossil fuels in buildings.
Our goal is to improve public health, reduce climate and air pollution, support good jobs, and make communities more resilient to climate change. We work to remove barriers, enable solutions, and set standards for the transition away from fossil fuels. We also form alliances with industry players and educate the public about all-electric homes and buildings. We operate in states including California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
Buildings contribute at least 30% of America’s greenhouse gas emissions. We also highlight that fossil fuels in buildings pose health risks, disproportionately affect communities of color, and create economic risks through stranded assets.
We offer the Clean Building Compass, a resource library that includes toolkits, research studies, strategies, technical support, and model policies for building decarbonization. These resources cover areas such as efficiency and building performance, electrification, the future of gas and heat, HVAC, neighborhood-scale solutions, thermal energy networks, and workforce development.
