The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Design System Engineer to lead the evolution of our cross-platform design system. You’ll work at the intersection of design, engineering, and product to deliver a scalable, accessible, and well-documented component library that empowers our teams to move faster and more confidently.

You thrive in challenging situations, and you appreciate the dynamics of a flexible, flat-structured work environment. You are quick to grasp the nuances and complexities of developing an AI product healthcare internationally.

What you’ll do:

Ultimately you will have the opportunity to work with the engineering mastermind behind Heidi developing Heidi AI products which will change the face of healthcare

  • Own the architecture and implementation of Heidi’s design system across web and desktop (React/TypeScript), and collaborate on mobile (iOS) guidelines.

  • Partner closely with product designers to translate design principles into reusable, accessible components that reflect our brand and UX standards.

  • Create documentation, tooling, and contribution workflows that scale design system usage across teams.

  • Drive adoption by collaborating with product teams and advocating for system thinking and frontend best practices.

  • Push for performance, consistency, and accessibility across the UI—making our experiences fast, inclusive, and beautiful.

  • Contribute to Heidi’s overall frontend architecture and help set best practices for scalable and maintainable codebases.

What we’ll look for:

  • 5+ years of frontend engineering experience, with deep expertise in modern React and TypeScript.

  • Strong track record of building and maintaining robust design systems or component libraries in fast-moving environments.

  • Deep understanding of accessibility (WCAG), responsive design, and cross-browser support.

  • Experience collaborating with designers and driving alignment between design and engineering teams.

A systems mindset—you think in terms of patterns, constraints, and scalability.

  • Bonus: familiarity with desktop app technologies (e.g. Electron), iOS or mobile design systems, or Figma plugin APIs.

What do we believe in?

  • We create unconventional solutions to difficult problems and we build them fast. We want you to set impossible goals and make them happen, think landing a rocket but the medical version.

  • You’ll be surrounded by a world-class team of engineers, medicos and designers to do your best work, inspired by our shared beliefs:

    • We will stop at nothing to improve patient care across the world.

    • We design user experiences for joy and ship them fast.

    • We make decisions in a flat hierarchy that prioritizes the truth over rank.

    • We provide the resources for people to succeed and give them the freedom to do it.

Why you will flourish with us 🚀?

  • Flexible work with a 50% hybrid environment

  • Additional paid day off for your birthday and wellness days

  • Special corporate rates at Anytime Fitness in Melbourne, Sydney tbc.

  • A generous personal development budget of $500 per annum

  • Learn from some of the best engineers and creatives, joining a diverse team

  • Become an owner, with shares (equity) in the company, if Heidi wins, we all win

  • The rare chance to create a global impact as you immerse yourself in one of Australia’s leading healthtech startups

  • If you have an impact quickly, the opportunity to fast track your startup career!

Help us reimagine primary care and change the face of healthcare in Australia and then around the world.
