Job description
The Block is the leading research, analysis, and news brand in the digital asset space. Founded in 2018 and now spanning 5 continents and 15+ time zones, our remote-first team is united by one mission: to accelerate the evolution of financial systems through independent journalism and in-depth technical research.
At The Block, we see digital assets as a ubiquitous part of the future. As this space continues to evolve, we view our role as the trusted moderator and authoritative voice for those who invest in, work with, make decisions about, or seek to understand digital assets.
As a Senior QA Engineer, you’ll be a hands-on contributor in ensuring product quality across a rapidly evolving ecosystem. You’ll write and maintain automated and manual tests, improve developer productivity, and support fast, safe, and reliable shipping of code. You’ll also play a key role in adopting and integrating modern AI tools (Claude, Codex, Cursor, etc.) to help scale QA coverage and streamline development workflows.
This is a high-impact role for someone with 6–8 years of experience who thrives in autonomous environments and is excited by the challenge of building resilient systems for a fast-paced, blockchain-native company.
An effective Quality Assurance Engineer should be able effectively communicate with the team and develop solutions for both unit and end-to-end tests. The ideal candidate must be able to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner.
What You’ll Do
- Lead QA strategy for key product initiatives, from test planning to implementation and automation.
- Build and maintain both unit and end-to-end tests using modern frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Mocha, etc).
- Use AI tooling (e.g. Claude, Codex, Cursor) to streamline test writing, refactoring, bug reproduction, and documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure a quality-first approach across all releases.
- Investigate, triage, and verify issues reported by users or internal stakeholders.
- Support continuous integration (CI) pipelines and help define deployment-readiness criteria.
- Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and QA retrospectives to continuously improve quality culture.
- Contribute to test documentation, regression libraries, and quality benchmarks.
What We’re Looking For
- 6–8 years of professional experience in quality assurance or software testing.
- Deep understanding of test automation frameworks (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, WebdriverIO, Mocha, Chai, etc).
- Comfortable using AI tools to accelerate test creation, bug diagnosis, or regression coverage.
- Strong experience with GitHub workflows, version control, and collaborative engineering environments.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux CLI and scripting for test and build automation.
- Prior experience working in agile development teams, CI/CD pipelines, and fast-moving startup environments.
- Bonus: Exposure to blockchain products, financial platforms, or web3 ecosystems.
