Your Mission
As a Staff Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical landscape of our engineering organization. You will drive the design and implementation of scalable, high-impact solutions while collaborating closely with Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and cross-functional teams. Your expertise will help influence technical strategy, enhance engineering practices, and ensure the delivery of robust and innovative solutions.
With our expanding customer base and entry into new markets and geographies, our existing architecture faces scalability challenges. As a Staff Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of architectural solutions that enhance scalability, resilience, and performance. Additionally, as our platform evolves, you will contribute to optimizing and refining our existing systems to better support our customers and sustain future growth.
Key Responsibilities
Lead engineering initiatives across hx, particularly in early-stage projects (Tiger teams), providing technical direction and fostering alignment on tools, technologies, and best practices.
Contribute to the development and co-authorship of the Engineering/Technical Vision, identifying opportunities to enhance technical excellence and sustainability.
Collaborate with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to guide, motivate, and support teams in the development and delivery of high-quality, secure, and performant software.
Consult on technical designs, offering guidance and expertise to ensure robust architectural decisions, while proactively identifying and addressing future technical challenges.
Champion engineering best practices across teams, driving the adoption of local successes to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency across the organization.
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, effectively communicating technical concepts, managing expectations, and ensuring alignment with business goals and priorities.
Provide technical leadership during incidents, acting as an emergency resource to unblock teams and support the continuous delivery of critical initiatives.
Engage with the wider tech community, mentoring engineers, contributing to talent growth, and fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and innovation within hx.
Required Skills and Experience
Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-based architectures and distributed systems, building scalable, reliable, and secure solutions.
Proven ability to design and evaluate complex technical architectures, balancing long-term sustainability with short-term business needs.
Deep expertise in multiple programming languages, technologies, and frameworks.
Strong ability to quickly learn and become proficient with new technologies.
Demonstrated ability to self manage and independently identify high-value opportunities and execute them effectively.
Experience leading technical initiatives, influencing cross-functional teams, and driving alignment on tools, technologies, and engineering practices.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Exceptional skills in managing stakeholder relationships, expectations, and alignment with technical goals.
Experience defining and contributing to long-term technical strategies and visions.
Extensive experience in writing clear, comprehensive technical documentation for diverse audiences.
