SALARY: £35,000.00 - £40,000.00 per annum

Role Overview
This is a development role for an individual looking to build a career in commercial management within a large, complex services organisation. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, the Assistant / Junior Commercial Manager will support the commercial function across the contract lifecycle, gaining hands-on experience in contract management, cost control, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
The role is suited to someone with strong transferable skills, commercial curiosity, and the ambition to progress into a fully-fledged Commercial Manager role over time.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Support & Contract Management
Support the Commercial Director and wider commercial team in the day-to-day commercial management of contracts
Assist with contract administration, ensuring commercial records, registers, and documentation are accurate and up to date
Help track contractual obligations, variations, and changes in scope
Cost Control & Financial Awareness
Support cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting activities
Assist with the preparation of commercial reports, dashboards, and performance data
Help monitor costs, margins, and risks across contracts
Variations & Change Management
Support the preparation, costing, and administration of variations and additional works
Maintain logs and trackers for changes, ensuring approvals and records are properly maintained
Risk & Governance
Assist in identifying commercial risks and opportunities within contracts
Support the maintenance of risk registers and early warning processes
Ensure commercial processes align with internal governance and controls
Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with operational teams to understand service delivery and commercial impacts
Support communication with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders as required
Build effective working relationships across finance, operations, procurement, and commercial teams
Learning & Development
Develop an understanding of commercial principles, contract frameworks, and industry best practice
Participate in training, mentoring, and on-the-job learning to support long-term career progression
Person Specification
Essential
Strong transferable skills gained through previous roles, education, or placements
Good numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Confidence working with data, reports, and documentation
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
Desirable (but not essential)
Exposure to commercial, financial, contract, or operational environments
Experience within facilities management, engineering, construction, or service-based industries
Familiarity with Excel or reporting tools
An interest in developing a long-term career in commercial management
Qualifications
No specific commercial qualification required
Relevant degree, vocational qualification, or willingness to work towards commercial training is advantageous
