About Americans for Financial Reform
We are a nonpartisan and nonprofit coalition of more than 200 civil rights, consumer, labor, business, investor, faith-based, and civic and community groups.
We formed after the 2008 financial crisis to build a stable and ethical financial system that serves the economy and the nation. We conduct policy analysis, education, outreach, coalition building, research, and advocacy at federal and state levels.
Our work focuses on fair consumer rules, a strong Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a banking system that supports homeownership and community investment, ending speculative financial practices, and ending financial institution bailouts. We also address executive compensation, Federal Reserve transparency, market transparency, and limiting the financial sector’s political influence.
We led public education, mobilization, and lobbying efforts that helped pass the Dodd-Frank financial reform law, which included creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. We continue to advocate for effective financial regulations, work to shift financial rules to better protect the public, and expose wealth extraction by Wall Street.
We do not receive tax-deductible contributions. Our sister project, Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund, pursues related goals through nonpartisan advocacy and does receive tax-deductible contributions.
