Bedrock Ocean Exploration

We are a vertically-integrated ocean exploration company founded in 2019. We develop our own robotics and software, including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) for nearshore geophysical surveys. Our AUVs collect high-resolution seafloor data that meets IHO special order standards.

We offer subsea survey services like hydrography, marine geophysics, and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) surveys. We also provide cloud and local software to store, process, and interpret subsea data. Our goal is to make surveys more affordable and faster by using autonomous fleets, which allow for overnight deployment and reduced permitting. This approach also lowers equipment and operational expenses. We prioritize environmentally friendly operations by using battery power, which results in lower noise pollution and reduced emissions.

We are part of the Automation Machinery Manufacturing industry and serve sectors such as offshore wind, cultural resource management, maritime security, and port infrastructure. We have a team of 11-50 employees.

As a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), we are legally bound to consider public benefits alongside shareholder value. Our mission is to provide a free, publicly available map of the world’s oceans, with 50 times higher resolution than existing public maps. We plan to explore and map all of Earth’s oceans.

We use a ‘data-first approach’ in subsea surveying to improve data acquisition and management. Our values include reducing operational costs, increasing safety, and minimizing risks. We achieve this by removing hazardous human jobs and reducing potential impacts on endangered marine life. We share our collected data with the public because we believe understanding the ocean is vital for climate models, weather predictions, submarine communications infrastructure, ocean safety, and sustainable exploration. A better understanding of the oceans is key to Earth’s future.

Our team of 11-50 employees is a collaborative robotics software group. We quickly move from developing code to deploying it in the field, driven by autonomy, respect, and accountability.
