About Bellese Technologies
Founded in 2009, we are a software development and consulting firm focused on civic technology. We build products and services for government and commercial organizations, with a strong focus on improving the US healthcare system. Our work includes full life cycle software development, agile development, enterprise architecture, DevOps, user-centered design, microservices, service design, FHIR, and Salesforce. We also handle government contracting, especially with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). We organize our services into four areas: Service Design, Product Management, Data Science, and Software Engineering.
Some of our projects:
- In April 2017, we expanded public access to quality of care data for hospitals nationwide, building on earlier work for dialysis facilities.
- In April 2018, we launched a tool to make out-of-pocket procedure costs clear to Medicare beneficiaries and the public.
- In September 2018, we began modernizing healthcare payment systems. This involved replacing old downloadable pricing tools with modern web-based products that providers and payers use to estimate Medicare payments.
- In April 2020, we contributed to the Quality Management and Review Systems (QMARS), which are case management systems for Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) focused on better healthcare for Medicare beneficiaries.
- In July 2020, we partnered with Code for Baltimore and the Baltimore City Health Department to develop “Healthcare Roll Call,” an open-source platform. This system connects senior housing and nursing homes with the city health department during crises.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to improve the US healthcare system. We want to shift from a system centered on providers and payers to one focused on patients, and from policy-driven design to human-centered design. We aim to improve everyone’s healthcare experience by designing digital services that cut confusion, offer clarity, help people make decisions, and streamline processes. This improves patient care, health outcomes, and reduces costs and burden.
Our principles for success include:
- Being supportive of our clients and the users of our civic tech solutions.
- Collaborating closely with partners and team members to support clients.
- Maintaining open communication and accessibility.
- Building trust through demonstrated success.
- Valuing our passionate team members.
- Focusing on human-centered approaches to improve quality of care and price transparency.
We believe in the importance of research and action, building trust, understanding users and their needs, knowing foundational laws and policies, and fostering transparency and a one-team mentality. These guide our work and help us succeed.
Team & Culture
We are a fully remote company with team members in 24 states. We prioritize a remote-first culture and try to work asynchronously as much as possible. Our culture emphasizes learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement to achieve significant public health outcomes. We value empathy and understanding human behavior, especially in our healthcare work. We regularly bring project teams together for in-person collaboration, covering all travel expenses. We were recognized as a Top Workplace in Baltimore for 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Our hiring process includes a blind resume review, a pre-interview, and a skills challenge specific to the role (like Codility for engineers or a portfolio review for designers). The final step is a team interview to check for both cultural and technical fit.
