About bodo.ai
We built our compute engine for large-scale Python data processing, analytics, and AI. Founded in 2019, we are headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Pittsburgh, PA, and San Mateo, CA. Our core technology is an auto-parallelizing just-in-time (JIT) compiler that converts Python programs into optimized, parallel binaries without requiring code rewrites. This approach achieves speeds 20x to 240x faster than alternative solutions, supporting native Python APIs like Pandas and NumPy.
Our engine uses Message Passing Interface (MPI) technology for distributed execution, eliminating runtime overheads common in driver-executor models. We offer Bodo DataFrames, which let users run Pandas at scale for 10x–100x faster execution on millions to billions of rows, preventing out-of-memory errors and providing fast Iceberg I/O. Another product, PyDough, is a Python-based Domain Specific Language (DSL) for verifiable and transparent text-to-analytics, designed for LLMs to easily learn for high accuracy. Bodo is Apache 2.0 licensed and open-source compatible.
We are backed by investors like Dell Technologies Capital, Snowflake, KDT Ventures, Xilinx, AMD, Candou, and Fusion Fund. Our customers include major enterprises and Fortune 10 companies.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to develop high-performance technology that helps organizations manage the scale, speed, and diverse use cases demanded by today’s data environment. We aim to redefine what’s possible with Python for analytics, data engineering, and AI, delivering HPC-level performance and efficiency for large-scale data processing through our auto-parallelizing Python compiler.
We believe parallel computing is essential for better performance, and we want to make this technology accessible to everyone, speeding up data insights, machine learning, and AI. We focus on simplifying parallel computing for data analytics developers, bridging the gap between simple programming and the need for extreme performance. We make extreme performance accessible to everyday developers through inferential, auto-parallelization compilation. Our name, Bodo, means “run” or “accelerate.”
Team & Culture
We are a company of 11-50 employees and a mostly remote organization, hiring people regardless of where they live. Our team consists of passionate technologists, built by High-Performance Computing (HPC) experts, and optimized for data teams. We unite HPC research with Python’s ease of use to meet modern analytics and AI demands. Our leadership includes Behzad Nasre (CEO), Ehsan Totoni (CTO and Co-Founder), Betty Chen (Chief of Staff), Hadia Ahmed (Engineering Manager), Melissa Machay (Director, Growth Marketing), and Rohit Krishnan (CPO).
Frequently Asked Questions
Bodo provides a compute engine for large-scale Python data processing, analytics, and AI workloads, centered on an auto-parallelizing just-in-time compiler. Specific products include Bodo DataFrames, which enable running Pandas at scale with enhanced performance, and PyDough, a Python-based DSL designed for verifiable, transparent reasoning in text-to-analytics for LLMs.
Bodo operates as a mostly remote company. It prioritizes hiring talent irrespective of their physical location, aiming to find the right people wherever they live. The team is composed of HPC experts focused on optimizing solutions for data teams, blending advanced research with Python ergonomics.
Bodo aims to accelerate access to performance, scale, and simplicity for data-intensive applications. It addresses the challenge data scientists and developers face in bridging the gap between programming simplicity and the demand for extreme computational performance by democratizing parallel computing through its compilation technology.
Bodo’s technology differs by seamlessly supporting native Python APIs like Pandas and NumPy, and by eliminating runtime overheads common in driver-executor models. It achieves this by leveraging Message Passing Interface (MPI) for true distributed execution, transforming Python programs into highly optimized parallel binaries without requiring code rewrites.
