A nonprofit accelerating clean transportation technology and market adoption.

About CALSTART

We are a nonprofit founded in 1992 to advance the clean transportation industry. We work with over 210 member companies and agencies, from startups to Fortune 100 firms.

Our activities include developing and testing new clean transportation technologies, creating programs to encourage market adoption, and advocating for policies that increase funding and opportunities for clean transportation. We also focus on demonstrating technology, evaluating emerging technologies (including third-party performance and business-case analysis), and supporting our members to help them meet their business and technical goals.

We work in various industry sectors, including light-duty vehicles, trucks, buses, and innovative mobility. We have a national presence with offices in Southern California (our headquarters are in Pasadena), Northern California (Berkeley), San Joaquin Valley, Colorado (Lakewood), Florida (Santa Rosa Beach), the Midwest (Troy, MI), and the Northeast (Brooklyn, NY). We also have a global reach through our Global Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero program, which promotes zero- and near-zero-emission commercial vehicles.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to accelerate the growth of the clean transportation technology industry for a prosperous future. We aim to build a high-tech clean-transportation industry that creates jobs, reduces air pollution and oil imports, and addresses climate change.

We act as a catalyst for innovation, working with both public and private sectors to remove barriers and move the transportation industry toward a clean future.

Team & Culture

We are an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer that values diversity and inclusion. Our work environment prioritizes merit-based decisions, and we encourage applications from underrepresented candidates.

Many roles support remote work, and we emphasize collaboration across teams. Our culture is mission-driven, proactive, and solution-oriented, focusing on decarbonization, clean air, and employee success and development. We are transparent about compensation. We have between 51 and 200 employees.
