About Deep Science Ventures

We started in 2016 to create ventures that combine scientific knowledge with founder-type scientists. Our goal is to create high-impact companies that benefit humanity and the planet. We work across five sectors: Agriculture, Computation, Climate, Pharma, and Education.

In Agriculture, we support ventures that help transition to regenerative practices. For Computation, we aim to unlock new computational advantages. Our Climate ventures focus on reducing global heating. In Pharma, we create companies that use new combinatorial techniques to cure diseases. In Education, we develop dedicated career paths for science founders and inventors.

Our venture creation process involves deep expertise, partnerships with industry leaders, and working closely with founders and investors to reduce risk. We’ve launched 56 companies, with 1 acquisition and 37 ventures currently in development. We’ve attracted £160M in funding, and our portfolio is valued at £500M.

Our work has led to 123 companies created overall, 260 kgCO2 removed in energy-related projects, 300 hectares of sustainable agricultural land, 24 drugs in development, and 4,000 hours saved through computational efforts. We use a first principles approach and partner with institutions to solve challenges in our sectors. For example, we’ve supported ventures in targeted, durable weed control to reduce environmental and health risks in agriculture.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to create a future where humanity and the planet can thrive. We achieve this by combining scientific knowledge with founder-type scientists to create high-impact ventures. Our core values guide how we work:

  • Uncompromising: We build ideal, global solutions, refusing to compromise and seeing ‘impossible’ as a temporary state.
  • Permit madness: We encourage bold ideas, value interesting problems over easy solutions, stretch what’s plausible, and draw inspiration from diverse fields and centuries to create vivid, audacious, and convergent solutions.
  • Impact: We focus on achieving results, prioritizing end goals, growth, and the potential for change.
  • Extreme ownership: We take responsibility for our actions, compete with ourselves, and believe most factors are within our control.
  • Openness: We foster honest appraisal, acknowledge failure, thoughtfully receive criticism, and see animated disagreement as a way to understand complex subjects.
  • Sense of urgency: We value starting quickly, committing to deadlines, being proactive, and working in parallel to avoid delays.
  • Empathy: We recognize that entrepreneurship is all-consuming, so we create a caring and empathetic environment where wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility.
  • Persuasion: We engage and inspire others, build critical mass, connect with emotional drivers, and identify leverage and credibility.
  • Depth of insight: We look beyond accepted beliefs to root causes, think from first principles, and learn when answers are unknown. We tackle complexity and uncertainty directly, believing we can quantify, assess, and judge using all available information.

Team & Culture

We’re a team of 11-50 ambitious entrepreneurs and operators. Our culture actively supports founders, with a strong emphasis on work-life balance. We have stories of founders successfully managing ventures while also becoming parents, showing our flexible and inclusive approach. Our team brings deep expertise, and we collaborate with industry leaders and world-class investors. We aim to provide long-term support to the ventures we create. Our culture is shaped by values like openness, which encourages honest appraisal and thoughtful criticism, and empathy, which emphasizes a collective responsibility for wellbeing.
