Purpose
The Technical Project Manager – BI & Azure Data Platform is responsible for the structured delivery, coordination, and continuous improvement of a global Business Intelligence and Azure Data Platform. The role acts as the central coordination layer between business stakeholders, self-service BI teams, and platform engineering, ensuring timely delivery, governance compliance, operational stability, and alignment with enterprise data strategy.
Team / Project Description
The role is part of a global Cloud Data & Analytics organization responsible for operating and evolving an enterprise-scale BI and Azure Data Platform. The team works across multiple regions and functions, enabling governed self-service analytics while ensuring platform reliability, security, and compliance.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Lead technical project management for BI and Azure Data Platform initiatives, ensuring structured planning, execution, and delivery.
- Act as a proxy Product Owner, translating business requirements into clear work packages, user stories, and prioritized backlogs.
- Coordinate delivery across business stakeholders, self-service BI teams, and central platform engineering.
- Manage dependencies, timelines, risks, and deliverables across multiple parallel initiatives.
- Apply agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) while integrating traditional project management practices where required.
- Support and guide teams in the use of Microsoft BI and Power Platform solutions, including Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
- Ensure alignment with Azure Cloud & Data architecture, including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, dbt, and data warehousing concepts.
- Oversee incident and operational management, coordinating resolution with engineering teams and ensuring clear stakeholder communication.
- Ensure service stability, minimal disruption, and continuous improvement of the BI platform.
- Enforce enterprise governance, security, and compliance standards, including Azure identity, access management, and data governance.
- Coach teams on self-service BI best practices, platform standards, and governance requirements.
- Facilitate stakeholder alignment, expectation management, and decision-making across technical and non-technical teams.
- Identify and proactively remove delivery impediments, optimizing processes and ways of working.
- Maintain transparency through structured reporting, documentation, and use of tools such as Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
Qualifications
YOU WILL SUCCEED IF YOU:
- have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Informatics, or a comparable field
- have proven experience in Technical Project Management within BI, Data, or Cloud environments – Advanced
- have experience acting as a proxy Product Owner, translating business requirements into structured work packages and delivery plans
- have strong experience managing dependencies, timelines, risks, and deliverables across complex data initiatives
- have solid knowledge of Azure Cloud & Data technologies – Advanced
- have hands-on understanding of Azure Data Factory, Databricks, dbt, and Data Warehousing concepts
- have strong working knowledge of Microsoft BI & Power Platform – Advanced
- have experience with Power BI Service & Desktop (workspaces, datasets, refresh cycles, gateways)
- have experience with governed self-service solutions using Power Apps and Power Automate
- have strong expertise in Agile project delivery frameworks – Expert
- have hands-on experience with Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe in enterprise environments
- have experience working in large, distributed, and international teams
- have practical experience with Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow (or similar ITSM tools)
- have experience coordinating incident and operational management in collaboration with engineering teams
- have strong stakeholder communication skills, especially during incidents or critical delivery phases
- have a strong enterprise governance and compliance mindset, including Azure governance, identity, and security concepts (RBAC, service principals)
- have experience coaching teams on governance, self-service BI standards, and best practices
- demonstrate strong leadership, coordination, and conflict-resolution skills
- have an analytical, structured, and process-oriented working style with a focus on risk and dependency management
- proactively remove impediments and drive continuous improvement
- speak English – Upper-Intermediate (B2) mandatory; German – is a plus
POSSIBLE SPECIALIZATION
- Project and Agile certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or SAFe
- Experience managing enterprise-scale BI platforms (10,000+ users)
- Knowledge of SAP Business Objects or other legacy enterprise BI tools
- Exposure to budget planning, financial governance, and cost control in IT projects
- Experience combining traditional project management (Waterfall) with agile delivery models
- Strong background in enterprise-level stakeholder management

Salary
Final salary is negotiable.
We are offering base salary depending on seniority level and previous experience of candidate. In addition to base salary we provide variable part and other financial benefits. Base salary will not be lower than 2300€ /brutto.
