Values and working at Dune

About the role

Dune is a small team building large things. We are generalist engineers who take ownership of complex systems and operate them in production. We value thoughtful design over quick fixes and prefer automation over manual work.

As a software engineer focused on our platform and infrastructure, you will play a key role in building and operating the systems that power Dune and Sim. This is a hands-on engineering role: you will design and operate cloud infrastructure, run Kubernetes in production, and build the tooling, automation, and observability that enable other teams to move fast and safely.

You’ll work closely with other teams to ensure the platform is reliable and scalable, and you’ll share ownership of production systems through on-call rotations. You will also help design and operate the platform in a way that naturally enforces security and compliance requirements as part of everyday engineering work.

In this role, you will

  • Design, operate, and continuously improve the cloud infrastructure that powers our systems using infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, and observability.

  • Own critical parts of the platform: identify bottlenecks, propose and implement improvements, and drive reliability and performance at scale.

  • Run Kubernetes in production and evolve how we operate it.

  • Develop and maintain automation, CI/CD pipelines, and internal tooling that improve developer experience.

  • Build monitoring and observability that make system health and performance easy to understand.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation and contribute to incident response and post-mortems.

  • Implement and operate security and compliance constraints as part of normal engineering work.

You might be a great fit for this role if you

  • Have experience designing, operating, and optimising cloud infrastructure in production (ideally AWS), including provisioning, configuration, and disaster recovery.

  • Have run Kubernetes in production and understand its operational trade-offs.

  • Are comfortable working autonomously, picking up new systems quickly, and driving improvements without constant direction.

  • Are willing to be on call and take responsibility for the systems you build.

  • Think about security as part of system design, not as an afterthought or checklist.

  • Enjoy building and maintaining tooling and platforms that make other engineers more productive.

  • Have a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals and system design.

  • Are a strong learner and expect to grow with support from more experienced engineers on the team.

  • Communicate clearly with engineers across teams in a remote, collaborative environment.

  • Are pragmatic about using AI tools to speed up engineering work when they make sense.

  • Bonus: have operated streaming systems (e.g. Redpanda or similar) or have experience running infrastructure on bare metal.

Perks & Benefits

  • A competitive salary and equity package 🚀. Both salary and equity is top 25% of companies in the space

  • Our employee equity scheme has world-class employee-friendly terms with a heavily discounted strike price (~90%) and a 10-year exercise window

  • 5 weeks PTO + local public holidays (that can be swapped to suit you) 🏖

  • A fully remote-first approach 🧑‍💻 within a distributed team with flexible working hours; you structure your own day

  • Say goodbye to meeting overload! We believe in a healthy mix of async and sync work, so you can focus on what truly matters—no more wasted time on endless meetings!

  • Good health is important, so we offer private medical insurance, dental & vision as standard🩺

  • We believe in paid parental leave 👶 to help you celebrate this important milestone, transition to your new life, and bond with your new baby. We offer 16 weeks to primary and 6 weeks to secondary caregivers, fully paid. Plus a 2-week part-time phased return at full pay to help you get used to your new (and slightly more complex!) schedule

  • Quarterly offsites in various exciting locations as a company or team to connect, work together and have fun (so far in Tuscany 🇮🇹 Berlin 🇩🇪 Austria 🇦🇹 and Athens 🇬🇷).

  • On top of this 👆each person gets a yearly travel allowance to connect and co-work with someone or a team of people for a few days.

  • An allowance for your at-home setup, to ensure you are happy, comfortable and productive. If you prefer a local co-working space, we’ll pay for your desk.

  • Work with some of the best people you’ll ever get to meet!

  • And of course, you get some awesome Dune swag! ✌️😎

We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
