About Electric Citizen

Founded in 2012, we are a Minneapolis-based digital agency. We build accessible, data-driven websites and digital tools for government, higher education, nonprofits, and arts organizations.

We handle everything from initial strategy and analytics to human-centered design, web development, and ongoing support. Our services cover information architecture, UX design, content strategy, SEO, and digital marketing.

We focus on open-source platforms like Drupal and WordPress and partner with providers such as Pantheon and Acquia. We are a Drupal Certified Partner, an International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Member Organization, and a Pantheon Premier Partner, always working to WCAG accessibility standards to build secure, scalable sites.

Mission & Values

We create intuitive, inclusive, and accessible digital experiences. Our goal is to serve the common good and help our clients achieve their missions. We believe accessible design is fundamental, not an afterthought, and that technology should empower an organization’s mission, not distract from it.

Our core values guide how we work:

  • Be Human: Be authentic and don’t take yourself too seriously.
  • Work Smart: Be effective and efficient without overworking.
  • Keep Getting Better: Grow personally and professionally.
  • Stay Confident and Humble: Trust your expertise while treating everyone with respect.
  • Value and Respect Others: Understand and appreciate your colleagues and clients.

Team & Culture

We’re a tight-knit team of experienced web professionals—strategists, designers, and developers. We focus on best practices to build sustainable and effective websites.

We value self-starters and encourage productivity and efficiency. Overtime is strongly discouraged; we believe in a healthy work-life balance. Our culture emphasizes curiosity, reliability, and purpose, ensuring every voice is heard and every project’s impact is recognized.

We actively support the open-source community, with team members presenting, volunteering, and attending conferences like DrupalCon. All our positions are fully remote and open to residents of the US and Canada.

Benefits & Perks

We offer a comprehensive benefits package:

  • Time Off: 15 days of PTO to start, 11 paid holidays, plus the entire week between Christmas and New Year’s off.
  • Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid family leave (maternity and paternity); short-term and long-term disability insurance; and life insurance.
  • Financial: A retirement plan with employer match, and quarterly bonuses.
  • Growth & Flexibility: Training and development funds, company retreats, professional conferences, and flexible schedules.

We prioritize work-life balance with reasonable hours, targeting 30-35 billable hours per week. This leaves time for learning or contributing to open-source projects.
