Environment Bank

We provide biodiversity net gain (BNG) solutions by operating England’s network of BNG Habitat Banks. We work with local landowners to transform low-biodiversity land into habitats like meadows, scrub, woodland, ponds, and rivers. This creates Biodiversity Units, which developers can buy to meet their off-site BNG planning conditions. We also offer “Nature Shares” to businesses that want to invest in nature projects to help restore biodiversity.

Since our founding in 2006, we’ve helped shape nature policy and contributed to establishing Biodiversity Net Gain legislation. In 2021, we received investment from the British Sustainable Infrastructure Fund (BSIF) at Gresham House to expand our Habitat Bank operations. We’ve supported over 3,000 development projects, generated more than 8,500 Biodiversity Units, and restored over 3,500 acres of land, adding more than 1,500 acres each year. We manage over 45 BNG Habitat Banks across England and collaborate with organizations like Natural England, Defra, the UK Business and Biodiversity Forum (UKBBF), the Science-Based Targets Network (SBTN), and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

We offer a performance-based annual bonus (up to 10% of salary), a pension scheme with employer-matched contributions at 6% of salary, and 30 days of annual leave plus paid bank holidays, a birthday off, and a wellbeing day.
