About Glowforge
Founded in 2014, we develop desktop laser cutters and engravers, which we call 3D laser printers. These machines cut, engrave, and score many materials, including wood, leather, acrylic, fabric, cardboard, food, glass, hardwood, metal, paper, and slate.
Our product line includes the Glowforge Spark and Glowforge Aura (craft lasers). These have a 6-watt Diode laser and an 8-12” x 12” cutting area; the Aura also includes Passthrough. Our performance lasers, the Glowforge Plus and Glowforge Pro (along with HD variants), use a 40-45 watt CO2 laser with a 12” x 20” cutting area. The Pro model includes a Passthrough slot for larger projects.
Our products offer precision laser cutting for materials up to ½” thick, Live Camera View, 3D Autofocus, 3D Hi-Res Engraving, and a Preview Mode. The devices are compatible with Mac, PC, tablets, and phones. We also offer thousands of customizable designs and Magic Canvas, an AI tool that generates project images from text.
Our technology helps educators, artists, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, businesses, and crafters create in classrooms, businesses, and homes. Our products are currently used in over 3,000 schools.
Mission & Values
Our goal is a world where anyone can print anything.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive culture. All employees receive anti-racism, inclusion, and diversity training. We believe our success comes from a team that reflects the diversity and creativity of our customers.
Our unofficial motto is “we have the best customers,” which guides how we support our users. We aim to create tools that empower others to create.
Team & Culture
The team has 51-200 employees. It fosters a culture of mutual support and collaboration, with an “alignment of care and purpose.” Most of the team works remotely, though safely managed labs and offices are available for in-person work.
Weekly all-hands meetings include sharing stories and virtual activities like learning instruments or playing board games. Transparency is key; information like sales numbers, earnings, and departmental operations is shared with the team. Weekly educational lunches cover business and technical topics.
The work environment is a fast-paced startup with ambitious goals and some uncertainty. Employees often work long hours out of enthusiasm and a sense of shared ownership, and all receive stock options.
Benefits & Perks
We pay research-based salaries that are above market; no negotiation is required for offers. Employees receive 20 days of vacation and 11 flexible holidays annually.
We cover 100% of employee premiums for medical, dental, and mental health benefits, including full telehealth. Our insurance plan is published online for transparency. Full-time employees receive stock options, with eligibility for additional grants after two years.
We also offer wellness, bereavement, jury, and parental leave. We supply necessary equipment like laptops and standing desks and provide a budget for equipping home offices. Employees can borrow a Glowforge printer indefinitely for free or purchase one at a significant discount. For employees in states with medical care restrictions, we cover travel or relocation costs to access necessary healthcare. All employees participate in expert-led training on anti-racism and allyship.
