About Impossible Foods
We were founded in 2011 by Pat Brown MD, PhD, with a goal to transform the global food system. We do this by creating meat, dairy, and fish products directly from plants, without using animals. Our approach is to identify what people enjoy about animal products and then recreate those experiences using plant-based ingredients.
We launched our first product, the Impossible™ Burger, in 2016. Since then, we’ve expanded our product line to include a variety of plant-based meats. These include Impossible® Beef (ground beef, hot dogs, burger patties, indulgent burger patties, slider patties, homestyle meatballs, and steak bites), Impossible® Sausage (ground sausage, savory sausage patties, spicy sausage patties, bratwurst, spicy ground sausage, and Italian sausage links), and Impossible® Chicken (chicken nuggets, including Wild Nuggies, chicken tenders, chicken patties, and spicy chicken patties). The Impossible Hot Dog debuted in 2023, following the Impossible Chicken launch in 2021.
Impossible® Beef gets its protein from soy, flavor from heme, and fats from sunflower and coconut oils, along with binders. A 4 oz serving has 19g of protein, 0mg cholesterol (6g saturated fat), and 25% of the daily value of iron. It contains no antibiotics or animal hormones. Choosing Impossible Beef over animal beef uses approximately 96% less land, 92% less water, and generates 91% less greenhouse gases. We source 99% of the soy used in our Impossible Beef products from American farms.
For dietary information, Impossible® Steak Bites, Beef, Sausage, Meatballs, and Pork are made without gluten-containing ingredients. Impossible® Chicken Nuggets, Patties, Tenders, and Beef Hot Dogs do contain gluten. We recommend reviewing ingredient labels for updates and checking with restaurants about cross-contamination risks.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to create delicious food that is nutritious, good for the planet, and humane for animals. We work to reduce humanity’s reliance on animals in the food system. As our founder Pat Brown says, our goal is to solve urgent global challenges by developing high-quality plant-based alternatives.
Our core values guide how we operate and our culture:
- We lead with heart, encouraging kindness, generosity, and assuming good intentions among colleagues.
- We stand up for what’s right, advocating against injustice, intolerance, and racism, and promoting the building of diverse teams.
- We think like scientists, emphasizing curiosity and a scientific approach to problem-solving across all departments.
- We go for 10¹² with an ambitious goal to replace 10¹² pounds of animal products.
- We blast ahead, motivating employees to pursue ambitious goals, overcome obstacles, and not be deterred by the fear of failure or criticism.
