Our Legal team is dedicated to supporting Karat’s people, solving complex problems with both a business and a legal mindset, and serving as a strategic partner to leaders and teams across a dynamic organization. What you will do

As Lead Commercial Counsel at Karat, you will navigate a mix of Services and Software agreements alongside dynamic, usage-based / consumption pricing, where legal plays a key role in defining the partnership terms and agreements.

  • Counsel on the risks and opportunities of proposed commercial actions; translate complex legal considerations into practical, solution-oriented guidance that meets cross-organizational business objectives while protecting core legal interests.
  • Own all legal aspects of deal processes and engagements with customers, leveraging insights across Commercial Law, Product & Pricing Strategy, and Data Ownership.
  • Partner with our go-to-market leaders and finance teams to negotiate enterprise-level customer agreements that support Karat’s sales cycles and capacity; collaborate with Product and Delivery teams on innovation, integrations, and delivery operations.
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives drive better outcomes; champion Karat’s mission to provide efficient, effective, and equitable interview experiences.

The experience you will bring

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one U.S. state
  • 6+ years of legal experience, with significant in-house experience; focus on product law, data privacy, or technology law strongly preferred
  • Background in technology, talent assessment platforms, or professional services/workforce solutions strongly preferred
  • Experience improving and operationalizing legal processes in a high-growth environment, with a track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to balance risk-reward, providing pragmatic, solution-oriented advice that protects core legal interests while enabling business growth
  • Experience with and interest in leveraging AI and defining AI governance and emerging technology legal frameworks

This position is only available to candidates residing in the following U.S. states: CO, CT, Washington, D.C., FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, MO, NC, NV, OR, PA, RI, SC, TX, VA, WA, and WI. While our team operates 100% remotely , we are currently limiting hiring to these specific locations. Applications from other states will not be considered at this time.

Compensation Varies by Geographic Location

At Karat, salary ranges for each U.S.-based position are determined by the employee’s work location. We structure our compensation into geographic tiers based on market data and regional economic factors.

Base Salary (GeoLo 2)

$178,501.50—$205,559.10 USD

Base Salary (GeoLo 3)

$158,668—$182,719.20 USD

Base Salary (GeoLo 4)

$138,834.50—$159,879.30 USD
