LAIKA Live Action

We are an animation studio located outside Portland, Oregon, known for our award-winning feature films. In early 2023, we launched LAIKA Live Action, an LA-based subsidiary.

LAIKA Studios, founded in 2005, has produced stop-motion animated films such as Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Missing Link. We are currently in production on our upcoming stop-motion fantasy film, Wildwood, scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.

We are known for pioneering animation techniques like stereoscopic 3D and integrating visual effects with 3D-printing (rapid prototype) technology, which earned us a Scientific and Technical Oscar. Our films have earned 6 Academy Award nominations, 10 Annie Awards, 2 BAFTA Awards, 1 Golden Globe, and 3 Visual Effects Society Awards.

LAIKA Live Action focuses on original live-action films and series, starting with an adaptation of John Brownlow’s novel, Seventeen. Other live-action projects in development include Crumble and Atmosphere. We also offer merchandise inspired by our films.

Our goal is to tell bold, original stories that resonate with audiences. We blend technology with timeless artistry in filmmaking. We believe art should spark thought, feeling, and connection, inspired by our shared humanity.

Our LAIKA Live Action subsidiary currently has 11-50 employees. We are committed to sustainability, as shown by awards like the Green Seal for Studios and the Green Business Leaders Gold Award. We actively foster community through regular events and support employee donations to nonprofits.

We partner with organizations like Women In Animation, Bowie State University, Portland Community College, Portland State University, and Film Independent’s Project Involve to support talent and promote industry inclusivity.
