Job Description
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Global Payment Services (GPS) team as an Associate Director in our operations group. Global Payment Services (GPS) is responsible for the accurate, timely, and secure processing of all payments across MUFG Investor Services, with teams located in Kuala Lumpur, Limassol, Dublin, Halifax, and Toronto that collaboratively manage the end to end payment lifecycle on a global scale. The Associate Director (AD) plays a key leadership role in overseeing the execution of payment operations within their region or team. The AD leads a team of payment professionals, ensuring strong operational discipline, consistent control adherence, and high service standards. The role contributes to global initiatives, drives process improvements, and supports the continued strengthening of the GPS operating model across locations. The AD ensures operational readiness, effective team performance, and timely, accurate payment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and motivate a high performing team of payment operations professionals.
- Oversee day to day execution of the payment operations lifecycle, including processing, settlement, exceptions, and investigations.
- Ensure adherence to operational controls, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Serve as the first escalation point for complex or sensitive issues, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
- Ensure fair and balanced workload distribution aligned with capacity and control priorities.
- Ensure strong application of internal control frameworks, including maker checker protocols and callback verification.
- Lead investigations and remediation of payment exceptions, errors, and discrepancies.
- Maintain documentation standards and ensure compliance with SOPs and control activities.
- Identify emerging risks and escalate appropriately to senior leadership.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, investment managers, and internal partner teams including Treasury, Banking Operations, Client Operations, Technology, and Product.
- Represent the GPS function in cross functional working groups and support operational readiness for new initiatives.
- Provide clear, timely communication to stakeholders as part of issue resolution or ongoing service.
- Use reporting and analytics to identify trends, risks, capacity challenges, and opportunities to streamline processes.
- Provide insights that inform decision making and improve operational effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and security within payment processes.
- Lead workstreams related to system upgrades, workflow redesign, automation, or new product introductions.
- Ensure procedures, checklists, and documentation remain up to date and globally aligned.
- Stay informed on market trends, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting payment operations.
- Support departmentwide initiatives, audits, and other projects as required.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in payment operations or financial services experience, preferably within a global banking or asset servicing environment.
- Strong people leadership experience with a proven ability to lead and develop high performing teams.
- Strong knowledge of international payment processes, clearing and settlement mechanisms, and exception handling.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to payments (AML, KYC, sanctions).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data driven mindset.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
