At NiCE, we don’t limit our challenges. We challenge our limits. Always. We’re ambitious. We’re game changers. And we play to win. We set the highest standards and execute beyond them. And if you’re like us, we can offer you the ultimate career opportunity that will light a fire within you.
Working Student Developer Experience Engineer (f/m/d)
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Location: Germany (fully remote)
So, what’s the role all about?
As a Working Student in our Developer Experience (DevEx) team at Cognigy, you’ll help improve the tools and workflows engineers use every day. Your work will reduce friction in development and delivery—so product teams can ship changes faster, more reliably, and with better quality.
You’ll collaborate with DevEx engineers as well as Engineering, Site Reliability Engineers, Security, and Quality Assurance to improve parts of our developer toolchain (CI/CD, internal tooling, and standardized environments). This is a hands-on role with real impact and plenty of learning opportunities.
How will you make an impact?
Support improvements to our developer tooling (small automations, scripts/CLIs, templates, documentation)
Help maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines (e.g., speeding up builds, improving reliability, making failures easier to understand)
Contribute to more consistent development environments (containerized setups and basic Kubernetes workflows, with guidance)
Assist with troubleshooting and continuous improvements across our engineering toolchain
Have you got what it takes?
You’re currently enrolled as a student (e.g., CS, Software Engineering, or similar) and are excited about engineering productivity and automation
Basic programming experience (e.g., TypeScript/Node.js or Python)
Comfortable using Git and working in a Linux/macOS terminal environment
You enjoy problem-solving, learning new tools, and improving existing systems step by step
You can work independently on well-scoped tasks and collaborate in a team
Nice to have but not required:
First exposure to Docker/containers or CI systems (e.g., GitHub Actions)
Interest in platform engineering / DevOps topics (Kubernetes, infrastructure, monitoring)—we’ll teach you the rest
What’s in it for you?
You’ll work on the “engineering foundations” that enable teams across Cognigy to build and deliver software. You’ll get mentorship, practical experience in real production workflows, and the chance to see how modern engineering organizations run at scale.
What you’ll learn:
How CI/CD pipelines are built and improved in real-world environments
The basics of containerized development (and how teams use Kubernetes in practice)
How to debug build/deploy issues using logs and structured troubleshooting
How internal tooling and good developer experience improves delivery speed and quality
Enjoy Cognigy-FLEX!
This role is fully remote within Germany, with an expectation to come to Düsseldorf or Berlin once per quarter for in-person collaboration and socializing with your teammates.
