Job Description
Join The Australian Financial Review as Deputy Editor, Wealth, where you will be part of a talented team producing incisive, agenda-setting journalism that distills complex financial developments into actionable advice for Australia’s premier business audience. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Wealth Editor to shape the narrative of personal finance and wealth management, driving subscriber growth through innovative storytelling and sophisticated analysis.
Day to day you will:
- Stay across developments in politics, economics and markets to find fresh angles and actionable advice in key areas including personal finance, investing and superannuation
- Spot trends in those areas before they hit the mainstream and use case studies and data to bring the content to life
- Be responsible for telling stories at the intersection of the two biggest trends shaping the Australian economy – housing affordability and the intergenerational wealth transfer
- Craft high-impact headlines, intros and write-offs
- Meet tight deadlines, learn from audience data and work collaboratively across the newsroom
- Assist the wealth editor to develop strategies to deliver on wealth’s role as a key driver of new audience, subscriber retention and subscriber growth; plus fill in for the wealth editor as required
Qualifications
What you’ll bring:
- Proven experience as a journalist or content producer, ideally with a background in financial services or personal finance.
- Exceptional writing skills with meticulous attention to detail, grammar, and sentence construction.
- A can-do attitude and the flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Experience in editorial leadership, including providing guidance to other reporters and editing their stories - or the ability to develop these skills
- Strong organisational skills and proficiency in digital storytelling formats.
- Experience in digital article production, including headline writing and image selection.
- An established network of industry contacts and the ability to deliver sophisticated analysis on major news.
- Experience writing newsletters would be looked upon very favourably.
