Develops and manufactures the OrganOx metra, a transportable, automated ex vivo liver perfusion device for organ transplantation.

About OrganOx

We founded OrganOx Limited in April 2008 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford. We specialize in medical equipment manufacturing. Our core product is the OrganOx metra®, a transportable, automated ex vivo liver perfusion device.

Our founders, Professor Peter Friend and Professor Constantin Coussios, developed this technology over 15 years at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford. It aims to improve organ transplantation.

Unlike conventional cold preservation, the OrganOx metra® uses warm preservation. It continuously perfuses the liver at 37˚C with oxygen-carrying red cells and nutrition. This process mimics the human body, allowing the liver to remain functional during preservation. It produces bile, metabolizes glucose, and maintains a physiological pH. This lets us objectively assess organ performance before transplant, supports longer preservation times, and helps use organs that might otherwise be discarded.

We design, develop, and verify electronic systems for our medical devices. We also provide on-site service and repair for the OrganOx metra® across the United States, in addition to regional sales. Our specialties include liver preservation, normothermic machine perfusion, and medical device development for transplant applications.

Mission & Values

Our mission is “Living Organs For Life.” We are dedicated to improving transplantation outcomes and saving lives through pioneering organ technology. We commit to our Code of Conduct and company policies.

Team & Culture

OrganOx has 51-200 employees. Our work environment is fast-paced, innovative, and compliance-driven. Cross-functional collaboration is common across our engineering, quality, and regulatory teams.

Some roles, particularly in design and engineering, are based in Oxford and offer a mix of in-person collaboration and remote flexibility. Other roles, like sales and field service, are remote-based and require significant travel.

We support ongoing professional development and offer clear career paths. This includes mentorship opportunities for less-experienced engineers and a path into Design Engineer positions for high performers. Employees in field roles work independently in hospital or laboratory environments.

Benefits & Perks

We offer a range of employee benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, disability coverage, and flexible spending accounts. Employees can participate in a 401(k) retirement plan, with company matching available after 90 days.

We provide paid time off, holidays, and additional leave benefits. We also offer employee discounts, access to an onsite wellness facility, support for ongoing professional development, competitive compensation, and support for work-life balance.
