Position Summary

The Electronics Engineering Manager will lead and develop the electronics engineering team responsible for the design, verification, and lifecycle support of OrganOx medical device products.

This role combines people leadership, project delivery accountability, and technical oversight. The post holder will ensure that electronic systems are delivered on time, to the required quality standards, and in compliance with applicable medical device regulations, while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

This is an on-site role in Oxford with flexibility, combining on-site collaboration with remote working to ensure close interaction with engineering, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing teams.

Listed below are the major responsibilities of the role and a brief description of some of the key tasks to be performed. This list is not totally exhaustive.

Major Responsibilities

Under direction from the Director, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, the Electronics Engineering Manager will be responsible for:

  • Providing line management to electronics engineers, including performance reviews, objective setting, coaching, and career development planning.
  • Building and maintaining a motivated, accountable, and high-performing electronics team.
  • Planning and allocating engineering resources across multiple projects to ensure effective delivery of electronics work packages.
  • Overseeing the design, development, and verification of electronic subsystems, ensuring alignment with system requirements and regulatory standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304 as applicable).
  • Reviewing and approving technical outputs including schematics, PCB layouts, verification plans, and design documentation.
  • Supporting architectural decisions in collaboration with Principal Engineers and cross-functional teams (Software, Systems, Mechanical, and Manufacturing).
  • Ensuring appropriate application of design controls, risk management, and documentation in line with medical device development processes.
  • Tracking project progress, identifying delivery risks, and implementing mitigation strategies in collaboration with project management.
  • Driving continuous improvement in electronics development processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning within the electronics function.
  • Engaging with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure robust electronic assemblies and smooth transfer to manufacturing.
  • Adhering to the letter and spirit of OrganOx’s Code of Conduct and all other company policies.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive relevant electronics engineering experience, preferably in medical devices or other regulated industries
  • Strong experience in analogue and digital electronics design for complex products.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading engineering teams within a structured development environment.
  • Solid understanding of PCB design processes and tools (e.g., Altium Designer).
  • Working knowledge of relevant medical device standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971).
  • Experience overseeing design verification activities, EMC considerations, and design-for-manufacture principles.
  • Ability to balance technical review responsibilities with people management and delivery ownership.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Structured and pragmatic approach to planning, prioritisation, and risk management.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
