About Ostrom
We founded Ostrom in Berlin, Germany, in 2021 as a Certified B Corp digital energy management platform. We supply German households with 100% green electricity from renewable sources. We offer monthly tariffs, provide end-to-end English and German customer support, and sell electricity at market purchase price.
Customers manage their energy consumption and tariffs through our app. It lets them track consumption and meter readings, manage payments and invoices, and control smart devices. In 2023, we introduced dynamic pricing and electric vehicle charging integration. We plan to incorporate smart meters in the future. Our roadmap aims for us to become a leading B2C energy platform in Europe by 2030.
We offer three main tariffs: SimplyFair, a variable tariff with monthly cancellation; SimplyFair12, a fixed 12-month tariff; and SimplyDynamic, a smart-meter compatible tariff with hourly dynamic pricing, ideal for electric vehicles (EVs), heat pumps, or battery systems.
Our smart products include Dynamic Pricing, Smart HVAC solutions, and NeoGrid, a Virtual Power Plant for EVs that optimizes electricity purchase and sale, potentially generating income for users. Our Ostrom Store provides compatible smart home devices. Our platform integrates with over 1400 devices across categories such as 46 car brands, 17 charger brands, 19 heating/cooling systems, 24 solar inverters, and 9 battery storage systems.
We handle the switching process for customers, including cancelling with their previous providers. Customers can also sign up early, even if they have up to 12 months remaining on existing contracts. We have acquired clients from over 900 previous energy providers and supply electricity to more than 4700 cities and towns across Germany. By 2025, we aim to offset over 489,000 tons of CO₂ annually in Germany.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to drive the green energy transition by making renewable energy more accessible and inclusive. We empower consumers to switch, track, and reduce electricity consumption through our seamless, multilingual energy management platform.
We operate on these core values:
- People First: We ensure transparency and empowerment, fostering an environment where everyone has a voice. Our workflows are public, and our company success metrics are accessible.
- Customer Focused: We strive to change expectations for utility service by improving customer experience and solving problems through cross-team collaboration.
- Data Driven: We prioritize results and use data to inform decisions. We emphasize testing customer preferences over individual opinions.
Team & Culture
Ostrom was founded in January 2021 by Matthias and Karl, with Matthias developing the initial concept. Ostrom has a team of 47 employees from 16 nationalities, with a gender distribution of 47% female, 51% male, and 2% diverse.
The company culture is remote-focused, built on trust, and offers flexible work options like remote, home, or office work. It emphasizes collaboration, views challenges as opportunities for growth, and ensures every voice is heard. Ostrom maintains a transparent, flat-hierarchy environment with open feedback. The culture also emphasizes its positive environmental impact, as each customer switching to Ostrom offsets an average of 1.5 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. Team events occur monthly, and a company-wide, remote-friendly happy hour is held every Friday for team connection.
