About the Role

We are looking for an Software Development Engineer in Test – Playwright Automation to help design, build, and scale automated testing for Securly’s modern, cloud-based products. This role is deeply engineering-focused and embedded within Agile development teams.

As an SDET, you will write production-quality automation code, validate system behavior across APIs and user interfaces, and partner closely with developers to improve quality early in the development lifecycle. You will play a key role in ensuring Securly’s products remain reliable, secure, and performant as we operate at massive scale.

What You’ll Accomplish in Your First 12 Months

First 90 Days

• Build a strong understanding of Securly’s products, architecture, test strategy, and release workflows.

• Contribute automated tests using Playwright for critical user journeys and APIs.

• Collaborate with developers to review code for testability and identify quality gaps early.

First 180 Days

• Take ownership of automation coverage for one or more product areas.

• Improve test stability, execution time, and CI integration.

• Influence test strategy by identifying gaps in coverage across UI, API, and service layers.

First 360 Days

• Lead automation initiatives that measurably improve product quality and release confidence.

• Help evolve Securly’s automation framework, patterns, and best practices.

• Act as a quality advocate within engineering teams, mentoring peers and influencing design decisions.


Core Responsibilities

Test Automation & Engineering

• Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks for UI, APIs, and services using Playwright.

• Write clean, maintainable, and scalable automation code as part of the production codebase.

• Ensure automation is integrated into CI/CD pipelines and supports rapid, reliable releases.

Collaboration & Quality Ownership

• Partner closely with developers to create test plans, review code for testability, and validate new features.

• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and design discussions.

• Communicate test results, risks, and quality insights clearly to engineering stakeholders.

System & API Testing

• Test web services and APIs, validating functional correctness, data integrity, and edge cases.

• Perform white-box testing (static and dynamic) to uncover defects early in development.

• Validate system behavior across backend services, databases, and UI layers.

Continuous Improvement

• Improve automation reliability, execution speed, and coverage over time.

• Identify opportunities to reduce manual testing through smarter automation.

• Contribute to documentation, standards, and shared testing utilities.


Required Qualifications

• Has built and maintained automated test suites for web applications using Playwright or similar modern automation frameworks — capability typically developed through 2–4 years in an SDET or automation-focused role.

• Has written automation code using JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or Java, treating test code with the same quality standards as production code.

• Has collaborated closely with development teams to create test plans, review code for testability, and embed quality early in the Agile lifecycle.

• Has tested web services and APIs, validating functional behavior and data flows across systems.

• Has worked with databases and understands how to validate data correctness across layers.

• Has demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills when diagnosing test failures or system defects.

• Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Selenium, Robot Framework, or transitioning legacy automation to Playwright.

• Exposure to white-box testing tools and techniques (static and dynamic analysis).

• Experience automating mobile applications using Appium or similar tools.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and test execution at scale.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain quality risks and decisions clearly.
