Technologies we use
Skroutz is powered by a complex Ruby on Rails application interacting with multiple auxiliary services. Much like our product, our infrastructure stack is under constant development and currently undergoing a full modernization and migration to the Cloud (AWS).
Our infrastructure is primarily composed of the following core products and technologies:
- A wide variety of AWS services (EKS, ECS, EC2, RDS, Lambdas).
- Cloudflare as the CDN solution of our choice; also helps us with WAF, DNS, ZeroTrust, and Video Streaming.
- Several FLOSS components for our on-premises infrastructure (Debian, HAProxy, Varnish, Nginx, Docker).
- Various database technologies including MariaDB, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, and Redis
- Apache Kafka as our core data pipeline and Resque for application async job processing
- Github for our main development platform and Github Workflows for managing our CI/CD pipelines.
- Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Cloudwatch and Datadog for observability.
- Several in-house services written mainly in Ruby, Python and Go.

We are seeking Software Engineers to join our Payments team. The ideal candidates will bring a strong technical background and proven track record of building scalable systems. We value engineers who demonstrate a proactive “get-things-done” attitude, maintain a passion for delivering high-quality solutions, and show genuine enthusiasm for learning and mastering new technologies. You’ll help architect and develop robust, resilient payment systems that can scale with our company’s rapid growth.
What you will be doing
Maintain and implement parts of the payment infrastructure in order to increase performance, robustness and visibility.
Create monitoring and auditing tools to facilitate troubleshooting payment transactions and detecting/mitigating fraud incidents
Integrate with third party APIs
Provide tools to our support agents that are going to help with payment related tickets
Maintain and extend the existing integration with our ERP
At least (5) years of working experience as a Software Engineer in a professional setting.
A solid CS background.
Intrigued by the product as much as by the technology.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and team spirit.
We would appreciate it if you have
- Good knowledge of Ruby/Ruby on Rails is a huge plus.
- Solid understanding of web architecture.
- Experience with the payments domain
- Strong knowledge of database systems (relational, document-based, etc).
- Familiarity with OOP principles and design patterns.
- Comfort with TDD and other testing practices.
- Exposure to architectural patterns and the production system of a large, performance-intensive web application.
- Contributed to open-source projects
- Shareable open source contributions or personal projects which will help us in the evaluation process.
