SMX’ State and Local Platforms and Data practice is seeking an Account Manager to lead our managed services team, acting as the primary liaison between our clients and technical delivery teams. In this pivotal role, you will drive client satisfaction, retention, and growth by understanding customer objectives, aligning our cloud and digital transformation solutions to their needs, and delivering exceptional service across diverse managed environments. You will be responsible for maintaining and expanding client relationships within the State & Local sector, supporting ongoing operations, and identifying new opportunities to enhance and broaden our managed services footprint. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally—with engineers, architects, and service teams—to ensure seamless delivery and high standards, positioning SMX as a trusted technology advisor for our clients. This is a hybrid position with up to 25-30% in person at customer and/or corporate facilities primarily in Columbia, SC.
Essential Duties:
• The Account Manager will provide effective leadership and bring extensive technical and managerial experience to all facets of leading the account with a focus on the State & Local customer.
• Heavy focus on hands on driving and coordinating new sales opportunities across State & Local, leading winning proposal efforts, and supporting tracking of key growth metrics
• Manage business development across target markets with primary focus on State & Local customers
• Hands-on ownership in leading winning proposals throughout entire process; comfortable in both individual contributor and team leader roles including P/L management of the State & Local portfolio
• Creative business solutions to meet customer requirements across diverse technologies, delivery, and pricing models
• Experience working with leading technology providers including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and leading-edge platforms and technologies
• Establish and maintain C-level relationships across the target portfolio to include customer, partner, and industry organizations
• Leverage existing relationships to: (1) enhance execution and support organic growth across strategic programs (2) Identify and qualify new business opportunities
• Drive high performance standards across the operation – develop great talent, and identify and implement programs for filling any gaps that may exist to drive growth
• Outstanding communication skills with the ability to ensure the highest quality in the day to-day performance of operations, who can conceive and articulate new strategies and tactics for the marketplace
Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business-related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work/military experience.
• 7-10 years of experience in the State and Local space working with CIOs, CTOs, program managers and other stakeholders.
• 5+ years of experience working within an IT Service Management Framework; one or more ITIL certifications.
• Self-starter; demonstrated experience in managing and completing tasks on time.
• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously across the acquisition life-cycle
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate client mission needs into business opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work as part of a highly dynamic team.

• Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2) is advantageous.

The proposed salary for this position is:
$120,600—$180,900 USD
