Job Description

Southwest Valve & Equipment, a UFT company builds the bridge between large scale water projects and the essential equipment needed to get the job done. We understand the difference between the “correct” product for the application and a product that will “just work” for the application. A correct product incorporates longevity of service; takes into account the environment of installation, system continuity, minimizing MRO, and where applicable, modifications to standard product offerings to customize the operation for the required service.

Southwest Valve & Equipment professionally represents top-tier manufacturers in the water and wastewater industry providing engineered and application sensitive solutions designed to preserve our most valuable resource.

As an Outside Sales Engineer, you will take ownership of the entire sales cycle and be focused on developing new business within an assigned territory as well as retaining and developing business with existing customers.

This is a hybrid role that will require travel throughout the Southern California Region

What you’ll do:

  • Prospect, develop and close new business with new and existing customers.
  • Meet or exceed annual sales targets within assigned territory and accounts.
  • Regularly travel to perform customer consultations to determine needs and solutions and obtain detailed information for estimates and proposals.
  • Maintain involvement on turnkey projects, demonstrations, and other related customer projects to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the water and wastewater industry and product lines represented by the company.
  • Utilize QuickBase (CRM) for all prospecting and customer activities.
  • Prepare and give technical presentations to explain to customers how the products and services work.
  • Work with the customers and Engineers to ensure the equipment meets the system requirements.
  • Communicate with the sales team to understand consumer demands and offer sales support where necessary.
  • Secure orders, guarantee product standards and assure product delivery.
  • Establish customer rapport and acceptance.
  • Plan for modifications to products to meet consumer demands.
  • Help clients to solve problems with product usage.
  • Recommend new and improved products to the customers and explain how the equipment will be more cost-effective.

Background and Experience:

  • Experience in manufactured equipment sales a plus.
  • Comfortable traveling primarily in the Southern California region. 7-10 days a month of overnight travel is required.
  • BS in Engineering (CE or ME preferred), or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong professional communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a results-based environment.
  • Effective closer.
  • Mechanical/ technical aptitude.
  • Previous experience using CRM software, QuickBase a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license, and clean driving record.

Compensation:

  • Base salary of $105,000 -$145,000 depending on experience + commission

Southwest Valve & Equipment’s knowledge base provides engineering firms and end users design support for their projects with the correct products for the application.
