Te Puna Tiketike | Research and Innovation Office (RIO) supports the work of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) to deliver the research and Innovation priorities set out in the University’s Strategy.

This is a unique opportunity to support research across the entire University, connecting research to strategy and creating an inspiring environment for innovation. Drawing on your experience within a research-intensive organisation, you will work closely with other service divisions to lead strategic initiatives, including refreshing and implementing the Research Impact Plan.

Other essential responsibilities of the role are:

  • Implementation and alignment of the Research Impact Plan with university processes and policies.
  • Engagement with and identifying best-practices from research impact and engagement literature to inform design and implementation of policies, processes and training.
  • Enabling a positive, inclusive, productive and impactful research culture.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent contract. This is a Band H role and the salary range for this position is NZ$98,700 - NZ$121,900 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

This position is based at 58 Symonds Street, Auckland CBD, with a hybrid working model (up to two days off site and three days on campus). The location offers easy access to public transport.

Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team

Reporting to the Associate Director, Research Development and Impact, this is a team of high-performing managers who thrive on initiative and collaboration. They are highly capable professionals who work closely with researchers to understand challenges and identify opportunities, ensuring research delivers meaningful impact. Known for their proactive approach, the team combines strategic thinking with practical solutions to support the University’s research excellence.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will bring at least 5 years of experience in research impact or engagement within a research-intensive organisation, along with a strong understanding of the research lifecycle and best practice - and preferably knowledge of the New Zealand funding system.

Your exceptional communication and presentation skills, combined with the ability to influence and train researchers, will enable you to build strong relationships and deliver positive outcomes. You’ll be adept at navigating complex issues and driving initiatives that achieve meaningful results.

You will also demonstrate:

  • In-depth knowledge of research impact and engagement theory and best practice
  • Excellent understanding of the research lifecycle and processes
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to deliver impactful presentations.
  • Self-motivation with strong organisational and project management skills
