Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Manager, Sales Engineering Enablement to join Visa’s Value-Added Services (VAS) organization and drive global training and enablement for our Sales Engineering teams. This individual contributor role (no direct reports) reports to the Head of the Sales Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) and operates in a highly matrixed, global environment. You will design and execute programs that ensure all Sales Engineers (technical pre-sales consultants) have the skills, knowledge, and tools to effectively position Visa’s products and solutions.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of training expertise, project management skills, and sales acumen, with the energy and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
You will collaborate extensively with cross-functional partners – including Product Management, Sales Enablement, Regional Sales Engineering leaders, and our Knowledge & Operations lead – to deliver consistent, high-impact enablement initiatives worldwide. If you are passionate about developing others, excel at translating complex information into engaging learning experiences, and can lead programs without direct authority, we want to hear from you.
Essential Functions:
Design & Own Global Sales Engineer (SE) Training Programs:
Develop and continuously improve structured onboarding programs for new Sales Engineers and ongoing training for existing SEs, leveraging AI-driven learning platforms and content personalization tools to scale knowledge transfer and enhance engagement.
Cover all facets of the role, including deep product/technical knowledge, Visa solutions and use cases, sales process (pre-sales cycle, AI-enabled tools), and client engagement skills.
Ensure programs reduce ramp-up time and drive consistent excellence in pre-sales engagements, using AI-powered practice simulations or virtual coaching tools to accelerate learning.
Establish a clear roadmap for AI and automation integration in Sales Engineering enablement, from piloting innovative tools to scaling successful solutions globally, in alignment with Visa’s technology standards and responsible AI governance policies.
Develop Skill Curricula & Certifications:
Create and maintain comprehensive Sales Engineer skill curricula and certification paths, integrating AI-driven learning modules and assessment tools to support scalable, personalized skill development.
Incorporate technical proficiency (product expertise, demo delivery, architecture design) as well as consultative and value-based selling techniques, while integrating training on relevant AI tools and data-driven methodologies to enhance Sales Engineer effectiveness.
Implement certification programs (e.g. tiered technical accreditations, “Visa SE Certified” demo or discovery certifications) to validate competencies at each SE level, motivating continuous development, utilizing AI-driven assessments or simulations to objectively measure and reinforce key competencies.
Define SE Competencies & Career Paths:
In partnership with the CoE leadership and HR, help define clear Sales Engineering competencies by role and level, including emerging digital and AI-related skill sets aligned with industry trends.
Support the establishment of a transparent career progression framework for SEs, outlining the skills and criteria needed for advancement.
Ensure training content and coaching are aligned to these core competencies, enabling SEs to progress in their careers with clear development roadmaps, including emerging technology proficiencies like AI
Enablement Content Development (TOI):
“Transfer knowledge into training”: Translate updates from Product or lessons from the field into bite-sized training content (videos, modules, lunch-and-learns) so that information is digested by SEs, not just stored.
Leverage generative AI and content automation tools to rapidly convert complex product updates and field insights into engaging micro-learning content (e.g., AI-generated video tutorials, interactive FAQs or chatbots), ensuring timely and scalable knowledge transfer across global teams.
Measure Effectiveness & Continuous Improvement:
Define and track key enablement metrics to gauge program success, such as new-hire ramp-up time, training completion rates, certification attainment, and improvements in sales engineering KPIs
Analyze feedback and performance data to identify areas of improvement. Continuously refine and update programs based on these insights, as well as changes in product offerings, emerging AI-driven training techniques, or market demands.
Present results and progress to senior leadership, highlighting how enablement initiatives contribute to business outcomes.
Partner with Visa University (Learning & Development organization) to develop online/on-demand training content as needed
Work with regional Sales Engineering leaders to identify needs and deliver relevant solutions.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. The preferred location for this role is in Austin TX (no remote)
