Visa’s Technology Organization is a community of problem solvers and innovators reshaping the future of commerce.   We operate the world’s most sophisticated processing networks capable of handling more than 65k secure transactions a second across 80M merchants, 15k Financial Institutions, and billions of everyday people.   While working with us you’ll get to work on complex distributed systems and solve massive scale problems centered on new payment flows, business and data solutions, cyber security, and B2C platforms.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale.  As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base.

The Work itself:

  • Design, build, and operate production-grade AI agents and orchestration workflows.
  • Own end-to-end agent lifecycle: discovery, routing, execution, streaming responses, compliance, deployment and enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings
  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads
  • Develop robust and scalable products intended.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates relevant technical working knowledge to understand requirements.
  • Identifies and contributes to the development and solution strategies to team members that improve the design and functionality of interface features across one or more project features, under minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with product managers, data scientists, platform engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers, contributing to code reviews, and participating in technical design discussions.
  • Ability to influence team‑level technical decisions, promote best practices, and contribute to architectural direction within the group.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for application and AI/ML development (required)
  • Experience working within strong engineering practices, including coding standards, automated testing, CI/CD, secure coding, and documentation.
  • Background in building scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise applications with attention to performance and reliability.
  • Collaborates with others to support the piloting of new technology capabilities and features that enhance the user website experience across e-commerce products.
  • Analyzes bugs for simple issues and applies debugging tools to verify assumptions.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
  • Education BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineer, Data Science or equivalent experience.
  • Core Engineering & Product Development Experience
  • 3–4 years of hands‑on product development experience, including coding, unit testing, CI/CD, deployments, and production support.
  • 2–3 years working in Agile/Scrum environments, participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Experience with LangChain or similar LLM/agent orchestration frameworks.
  • Familiarity with vector databases such as Pinecone, Chroma, Redis Vector, or Weaviate.
  • Exposure to responsible AI principles, ML governance, or AI safety considerations.
  • Familiarity with telemetry and observability tools like AppInsights, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Experience creating proofs‑of‑concept (POCs) and maturing them into production‑grade systems.
  • Prior experience as a Senior Engineer or strong mid‑level engineer owning components or features end‑to‑end.
  • Solid foundation in system design and architecture, including microservices, distributed systems, cloud‑native patterns, and REST APIs.
  • Experience delivering features from design through production, collaborating with cross‑functional partners and supporting releases.
  • AI / ML / GenAI Experience
  • Hands‑on experience contributing to AI/ML or Generative AI projects as part of product development.
  • Practical exposure to LLMs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Llama) including embedding usage, RAG patterns, and model integration into applications.
  • Experience with prompt engineering and vector databases, with familiarity in grounding, retrieval flows, or knowledge‑base integrations.
  • Ability to apply GenAI techniques to real product use cases such as summarization, classification, chat interfaces, automation agents, or content generation.
  • Programming & Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Python for application and AI/ML development (required).
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms, preferably Azure (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Functions, AKS, Storage, Cosmos DB, App Services).
  • Experience implementing distributed services, REST/Microservices APIs, and event‑driven or streaming architectures.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure tooling, including Docker, Kubernetes, IaC, and cloud‑based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Front-End / UI Development Experience
  • Experience with modern frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, or similar) is a plus, especially for building UI flows that leverage GenAI capabilities.

  • We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn’t work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is 110,700.00 to 171,800.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
