Yugabyte

Yugabyte, founded in 2016 by former Facebook engineers Kannan Muthukkaruppan, Karthik Ranganathan, and Mikhail Bautin, is the company behind YugabyteDB. YugabyteDB is an open-source, PostgreSQL-compatible distributed database for cloud-native applications. We built it to serve both scale-out RDBMS and internet-scale OLTP workloads. Our database offers high performance, low query latency, extreme resilience against failures, and global data distribution. Its architecture combines a high-performance document store, auto sharding, per-shard distributed consensus replication, and multi-shard ACID transactions, inspired by Google Spanner. YugabyteDB can be deployed across public and private clouds, and in Kubernetes environments. We made it fully open source under the Apache 2.0 license in July 2019.

YugabyteDB features built-in connection management, observability, end-to-end security, high availability, and flexible disaster recovery across zones, regions, and clouds. It provides seamless scalability, automatically sharding data and scaling reads and writes without disrupting applications. It also supports versatile design patterns for global applications, with various replication techniques to optimize latency, resilience, and consistency.

The database includes enterprise capabilities such as AI features, seamless migration, data protection, and backward compatibility. For AI and GenAI applications, YugabyteDB offers advanced vector indexing capabilities. It supports managing millions of vectors with ultra-low-latency query response times. It allows for vector similarity searches using SQL and integrates with tools like LangChain, OLLama, LlamaIndex, AWS Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI.

We also provide YugabyteDB Aeon, a fully managed Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform we introduced in 2021, available on public clouds. Our offerings include database migration tools such as YugabyteDB Voyager.

Users include Shopify, Rakuten, Admiral, Tokopedia, Fiserv, Kroger, and Narvar.
