Mission – Why we exist and why we need you
Geothermal energy is the most abundant renewable energy source in the world. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. However, historically it’s been hard to find and expensive to develop. At Zanskar, we’re using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal a cheap and vital contributor to a carbon-free electrical grid. We are revolutionizing the exploration process, setting new industry standards for discovery rates and finding new prospects at an unprecedented scale. To reduce risk and improve outcomes, we rely on novel machine learning modeling.
The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will design, build, and operate production-grade geospatial machine learning models within the Prospect Generation team to uncover hidden geothermal systems and drive real-world exploration decisions. A successful candidate will be a hands-on contributor, an experienced innovator, and a technical leader with an ability to grow deep learning expertise across teams. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role requires close collaboration with research, engineering, geoscience, land, and field teams. Startup experience is a strong plus.
Competencies – What we’re looking for
- 6+ years professional experience in machine learning engineering, preferably in a business environment
Proven technical skills:
- Deep expertise in modern deep learning and statistical methods
- Proven experience developing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade machine learning models
- Strong software and infrastructure fluency. Our tech stack includes Python, SQL, PyTorch, GitHub, and Docker. (Familiarity with GCP, Dagster, Terraform, and QGIS is a plus.)
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with engineers, domain experts, and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong plus: computer vision expertise; experience with geospatial, remote sensing, or geophysical data
