Zantech is looking for a talented Systems Administrator Senior to contribute to the success of our upcoming Operations and Sustainment Support Services project for a Hybrid role based out of Battle Creek, MI.
The Systems Administrator Senior will play a crucial role in providing:
- Defense Business Systems (DBS) Life Cycle Management
- Acquisition
- Sustainment
- Maintenance
- Technical Support
The Systems Administrator Senior ensures the stable operation of computer software systems and network connections supporting the DLA Disposition Integration Web (DIW) Program Office. This role is responsible for planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software, communication links, and application environments. The Systems Administrator Senior organizes and directs the configuration and operation of information management systems, applies advanced technical knowledge of application networking including load balancing and fault tolerance, and performs vulnerability management. This position supports mission-critical applications including Electronic Turn-in Document (ETID), Reutilization Transfer and Donation (RTD) Web and Mobile, Compliance Suite, Generator Communications Interface (GenComm), Employee Suggestion Program (ESP), and future mobile applications.
Impact: This role directly impacts system availability, performance, and security for DLA’s mission to manage disposal of excess property from military services and support disaster relief operations nationwide.
Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:
System & Network Administration:
- Ensure the stable operation of in-house computer software systems and network connections
- Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, support, and optimize all network software and communication links
- Organize and direct the configuration and operation of information management systems
- Provide both local and remote maintenance support to various operational systems deployed at more than one location
- Support includes general maintenance, upgrades, and new installs of servers and applications
Performance & Optimization:
- Conduct capacity and performance analysis and provide system configuration change and upgrade recommendations
- Increase system administrator efficiency and accuracy via the use of automated tools and scripts
- Develop system administrator procedures
- Conduct system administrator training and skills assessment
- Optimize system and resource performance
- Monitor system health and proactively address potential issues
Application & Network Support:
- Apply advanced technical knowledge of application networking, including load balancing applications, and ensuring fault tolerance
- Analyze and resolve end user software program and connectivity issues
- Provide end user training
- Provide recommendations on technology direction to align with business vision
- Direct the work of other system administrators to provide day-to-day system administration including system and resource optimization and user assistance
Vulnerability & Security Management:
- Perform vulnerability management
- Research, analyze, determine applicability and impacts of DBMS CERTS, CTOs, IA directives/mandates/regulations
- Develop implementation plan and schedule for security compliance
- Obtain customer approval for installation schedule from the PMO
- Coordinate schedule through configuration management and obtain approval
- Install and implement CERTS, CTOs, other IA directives, mandates and regulations including Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Readiness Reviews (SRRs)
- Prepare Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs) as required and implement mitigation measures/strategies as required
Database Administration Support:
- Provide all activities related to the web administration of computerized databases
- Project long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function
- Design, create, and maintain databases in client/server environment and other required environments
- Conduct quality control and auditing of databases in client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data
- Advise users on access to various databases
- Design, implement, and maintain complex databases with respect to JCL, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods
- Apply knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end/back-end programming languages (e.g., SQL)
- Perform database programming and support systems design
- Include maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design
DBMS & Software Management:
- Research, analyze, and determine Database Management System (DBMS) software/patch/upgrade availability, applicability
- Research and recommend software/hardware requirements to the government for approval
- Customize installations for application sustainment
- Develop implementation plan and schedule
- Obtain Government POC approval for installation schedule
- Coordinate schedule through configuration management with the PMO who will go through the DLA Enterprise CM process
- Install/Configure DBMS software/upgrades/patches where applicable
- Provide database CERT/CTO/IA directives/mandates/regulations management where applicable
Backup, Recovery & COOP:
- Provide database backups and recoveries where applicable
- Determine, set up, coordinate backup schedule for DBMS and other related files
- Provide database Continuity of Operations (COOP) where applicable
- Participate in all phases of COOP planning as needed
- Participate in COOP exercises and related activities as required
- Prepare documentation for COOP exercise and related activities
Environment Management:
- Administer application databases across DISA, J64 TFS and Azure GovCloud, and any future Amazon Cloud service
- Assist HP and DIW system administrators as required
- Manage development, test, staging, and production environments
- Ensure proper environment separation and controls
Data Management & Reporting:
- Run queries and develop reports from databases
- Perform data cleansing of production database data
- Develop database-related processes/procedures that enforce/complement other data integrity processes and procedures implemented by DIW
- Assist DIW customers as requested with data management concerns/issues/problems
- Provide support to DIW in the assessment and implementation of concepts and technologies regarding data mining, data warehousing, data standardization, data management and data administration
- Develop policies, processes and procedures for effective data management and administration
- Assist with SQL Server Reporting Services database configuration and setup when needed, including troubleshooting SSRS issues
Project Management Support:
- Provide project management services and support for DBMS and related projects and efforts
- Prepare requested documentation such as lists, word documents, spreadsheets, POAMs, Work Breakdown Schedules (WBS)
- Track status and progress and report both formal and informal progress to government personnel and management
Stakeholder Support:
- Assist stakeholders in resolving issues/concerns/problems as they relate to system access and availability
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations
- Interface with clients to determine system requirements
- Support application development and operations teams
Required Experience or Knowledge of the following technologies/functions:
10 years of specialized Information Technology experience, with the majority specialized in numerous Information Processing disciplines involving a range of hardware/software solutions
At least 10 years of concentrated, hands-on experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and resolving issues with various software
Skills Required:

Required Education/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology related field with 10 years of relevant experience
Education Preferred:
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Administration, or related field
Advanced certifications in systems administration or cybersecurity
Certifications Required:
DoD 8570⁄8140 certification as applicable for IT-II Critical Sensitive position (Information Assurance certification)
Operating system certifications relevant to administered systems
All certifications must be current and maintained throughout the period of performance
Certifications Preferred:
CompTIA Security+ or higher
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Server Infrastructure
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

Required Security Clearance:
