Job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to join our client’s healthcare team on a 6-month contract. The ideal candidate will have 3–6 years of experience in U.S. medical billing, a solid background in working with insurance companies, and hands-on experience with the Athena (Athenahealth) billing system. This person will play a vital role in managing billing accuracy and ensuring timely reimbursements within a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Process and manage medical billing and insurance claims in accordance with U.S. healthcare standards.
Submit claims via Athena and follow up on denied or unpaid claims.
Work directly with insurance providers to resolve billing discrepancies and delays.
Ensure accurate patient account information, verify insurance, and update billing records.
Maintain compliance with healthcare billing regulations and HIPAA guidelines.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to improve billing processes.
Prepare billing and collections reports as needed.
Respond professionally to patient inquiries related to billing.
3–6 years of experience in U.S. medical billing.
Strong understanding of the U.S. healthcare system and insurance procedures.
Experience using Athenahealth (Athena) billing system is required.
Previous billing experience with claims posting, remittance processing, payment posting, billing denials, etc
Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle confidential information.
Comfortable working a fixed schedule: 40hr work week that fits into the CST timezone (8-5 or 9 -6).
Nice to Have:
Experience with U.S.-based medical clinics or healthcare providers.
Familiarity with other billing platforms (e.g., Kareo, AdvancedMD).
Previous experience working with remote, LATAM-based teams.
Work remotely Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week (no weekends)
Vacation: 10 business days a year
Holidays: 5 National Holidays a year
Company Holidays: 5 Company Holidays a year (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Zipdev Day)
