Position Purpose
The Director, Data and Insights is a direct report of the Chief Impact Officer. They will play a critical role in developing actionable insights from program and impact data for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) and the national Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) network. This position leads program evaluations, coordination of new research, and data storytelling that helps BBBSA and the BBBS network of 230+ agencies to know, show and grow our collective impact on youth, mentors, and families.
The Director oversees key initiatives related to data analysis, visualization, and learning—ensuring that insights generated from our national program and impact data, program evaluations, and research partnerships are accessible, meaningful, and aligned to BBBSA’s strategic priorities. This role manages a team that delivers clear data products, supports continuous improvement efforts, and strengthens the network’s capacity to use data in decision-making and fundraising.
As a cross-functional leader and thought partner, the Director collaborates closely with colleagues in Program and Impact, Agency Growth, and Resource Development, while also engaging externally with funders, researchers, and field leaders to advance our visibility and credibility as a mission-driven, data-informed organization.
Location: Continental United States (100% Remote)
Travel: Approximately 20%

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Data Analysis
- Oversee data collection, cleaning, analysis, and synthesis to ensure accurate, timely, and meaningful insights that reflect the true impact of BBBS programs and partnerships.
- Lead the development and refinement of programmatic dashboards, and visualizations that help BBBSA and the BBBS network track impact, inform decisions, and communicate outcomes effectively.
- Supervise and guide staff and consultants in producing high-quality data products and insight reports that support program performance, fundraising, and strategic initiatives.
- Apply systems thinking to ensure that data and insights are aligned across departments and reflect the full continuum of BBBS’s work—from local program implementation to national impact.
Evaluation & Research
- Direct the design and implementation of program evaluations, surveys, and learning frameworks that measure impact across youth, mentors, and families.
- Manage external research and evaluation partnerships, including contractor selection, scope development, and oversight of deliverables.
- Ensure all evaluation and research efforts reflect our organizational values of access, belonging, and opportunity, and are shaped by the lived experiences of youth, families, and frontline staff.
- Identify opportunities to generate insights that inform continuous learning, program refinement, and field-level knowledge.
Data Storytelling & Strategic Communication
- Translate complex data and research findings into clear, compelling insights tailored to a variety of audiences, including national staff, BBBS agencies, frontline mentoring staff, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate communication agility by adapting insights for stakeholders outside the social sector, such as funders, policymakers, and corporate partners, so they can understand the relevance and impact of BBBS’s work.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to embed data-informed decision-making throughout the organization, ensuring insights support fundraising, partnership development, and program design.
- Lead the development and dissemination of learning briefs, white papers, and presentations that position BBBS as a national leader in mentoring and youth development.
- Cultivate a collaborative mindset by building trust across teams, aligning efforts across departments, and actively engaging peers in the insight development process.
People Management
- Recruit, train, retain, and cultivate professional development of direct reports.
- Create a dynamic, supportive, and effective team that is impactful across the BBBSA and the Big Brothers Big Sisters Network.
- Lead and manage resources (people and capital) that retain and cultivate positive, measurable success.
- Monitor progress against performance targets; implement countermeasures as needed.

Education & Related Work Experience
Education Level: Advanced degree or other post-graduate work in evaluation, nonprofit management, youth development or related field a plus, but not required.
Years and Scope of Related Work Experience: 5+ years relevant experience managing and leading projects in program evaluation, data analytics, program/strategy development.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience with data analytics and program evaluation, comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative methods, systems and tools; Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to translate complex and dense content into understandable and actionable insights for a diverse set of stakeholders; Experience with managing processes to design and test new initiatives based on strategic priorities and utilizing research to inform program design; Experience working with and creating dashboards, evaluation reports and other content using all relevant data to inform decisions; Excellent coaching and facilitator skills; Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and innovation with superb critical thinking skills; Advanced interpersonal skills; Highly organized in approach, with ability to set and manage priorities; Ability to work independently as well as collaborate cross-functionally in achieving results consistently on deadline; Demonstrated experience in directly supervising staff, including responsibility for performance management, coaching and development, workload prioritization, and fostering a collaborative, accountable team culture.
